Wilma Ann Eberle

EBERLE, W. Ann. September 18, 2025. Age 80. Beloved wife of Joseph Eberle. Loving mother of Kelley (Robert) and John (Kris). Dearest grandmother of Kelsey (Nathan), Lindsey, and Ian. Proud great-grandmother of Isa and Nolan. Loving sister of Bruce (Christy) and the late Jock. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Ann was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife of 61 years to Joe. Born Wilma Ann Campbell, she embraced her Scottish heritage, with all her siblings going by their middle names or nicknames. Ann grew up in Detroit and attended Southeastern High School, where she was an avid tennis player. She began nursing school but postponed it to raise her family, completing her studies later in life. Ann always believed her greatest strength was her family. Camping was their favorite vacation activity, and she actively supported school events and the UAW alongside Joe. The couple enjoyed playing many sports, including bowling, volleyball, and softball. Together they were fans of the Detroit sports and ever hopeful the Lions would play in the Super Bowl again. Thanksgiving Day tradition of attending the parade downtown and watching the Lions game were treasured through generations. We don’t know how she did it year after year each Thanksgiving she had perfect timing for dinner whether we were losing by a lot the meal came out early or winning and the meal came out at the end of the game, so all enjoyed the moment. Ann was known for her grace with a sense of humor. Early in their marriage, she made it clear to Joe that she had a quick wit. As the story goes, Joe came home one day to say to say the checkbook was overdrawn, to which Ann replied, “No, Joe you are under deposited.” From that day on, Joe made sure it never happened again. She loved telling jokes, never revealing the punchline to "Big Red." She maintained playful correspondence with her brothers in California and always sought the perfect birthday card to send. Ann had an old wives' tale for almost everything, from saying "white rabbits" three times on the first day of the month for good luck to predicting a baby's gender with a needle on a string (which was always right). Her smile was welcoming, and she was a gracious hostess. Ann cherished all holidays, especially Christmas, making each one special. She remembered every mention of a desired gift, ensured a birthday cake for Jesus, and introduced a new family game on Christmas Day for one more celebration. Ann eventually became a nurse, specializing in caring for the elderly. She was a fierce patient advocate, always striving to improve their care and protect them financially. Family time was her most precious treasure. The grandkids remember her tickles with “round and round goes the little spider” and then seeing her do the same with the great grand children and see them giggle with her was so special. Ann will be deeply missed by many. She was a good friend, the best sister, the matriarch of her family, and the most loving wife to Joe. A Memorial visitation will take place on Thursday September 25, from 3:00pm-8:00pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., 54880 Van Dyke (at 25 Mile Rd.), Shelby Township. A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday September 26, Instate 10:30am followed by Mass at 11:00am at St. Frances-St. Maximilian Church, 62811 New Haven Rd, Ray, MI 48096.
