SOBOLEWSKI, Walter age 92, January 24, 2023 Beloved husband of Julia for 66 cherished years. Dearest father of Mark (Nancyjo), Kevin (Valerie), Paul (Jennifer) and Carl (Laura). Proud grandfather of Emily (Joe) Benedetto, Carl (Kelsey) Casmere, Brenda (Chad) Golden, Brett (Kaitlyn), Sara (Jeremy) Grundy, Erica, Alison, Dana, Jacob Drinkard, Nicholas Drinkard, Nathan and Baylee Bowman. Loving great grandfather of Layton, Mason, Olivia, Eleanor, Brynn, Nicholas and Maddie. Walter was a Patriot with deep love and appreciation of our country, military and for those who serve. He had worked his way up to the rank of Staff Sargent in the 2nd Armored Division of the U.S. Army for which he was very proud. He would often tell stories of his experiences he had in the Army. He was a leader, teacher and a very hardworking man. Always trying to improve himself, his family and helping others. His thirty-four-year career at General Motors Parts Fabrication began as an hourly apprentice metal model maker. Working days and nights in the union, he improved his technical and managerial skills and advanced, working his way up until he retired as a manager responsible of Health and Safety Department. He had earned a designated parking spot, identified by his name, that seldom was used as he walked to work almost every day. He was very proud of working on the very first Corvette prototypes, President limousines and also components for Abrams A-1 tank. Walter loved his family and the outdoors. Almost every Sunday after church there would be family activities with his wife and boys or visits to friends and relatives. He made sure the family always enjoyed an annual vacation and loved being up North at the cabin. He had a passion for guns and hunting, a pastime he enjoyed sharing with his kids and grandkids. He thoroughly enjoyed the family’s yearly Woodward Dream Cruise gathering which would also bring in some of his nephews and their families. The story of his 32 Chevrolet was one he shared many times. The pride of his life was his wife Julia, she was his everything. They met at a very young age, Walter was 17 and Julia was 12. They met working at the market in Hamtramck. When Walter returned home from the service in 1956, they were wed and enjoyed 66 wonderful years in marriage. He totally adored Julia and would always make sure she was getting taken care of.
