Nicola Fiorvento

Nicola Fiorvento, the youngest child of a large family, was born in Sepino, Italy on March 24, 1935. His early years were marked by adventure--shepherding sheep, hunting, sleeping under the stars, waking up to find his dog, Tom, by his side, and watching air combat dogfights during World War II. During the War, Nicola befriended American soldiers, who allowed him to ride in their Sherman tanks. He and his family bravely hid and provided shelter to American bomber pilots from enemy troops and guided them to the safety of American lines. In 1952, at the age of 17, he left Italy for British Columbia to work on Highway 1 which evolved from a wagon road to a modern freeway. In 1962, Nicola moved to America and married his loving wife, Elena. Elena and Nicola were true soul mates. During their 63 years of marriage, they raised two children, Anthony, and Annunziata while working together to build a successful commercial construction company. Nicola specialized in building foundations for industrial buildings. His natural understanding of engineering, mathematics and construction led to the to the design of a “floating” foundation that could be used in the swampy soil of many of the outlying areas of Metro Detroit. Outside of work, Nicola had many other interests. He enjoyed dancing with his loving wife, sharing his passion for the outdoors with his son and grandsons, hunting with his father-in-law, Pasquale Morga, as well as spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and singing Italian folk songs to them. Nicola passed away on February 4, 2026 at the age of 90. Nicola is survived by his loving wife Elena, his children Anthony (Sherisse) Fiorvento, and Annunziata Fiorvento, his grandchildren Nicola (Anna) Fiorvento, Anthony Fiorvento, and Isabella Depirro and his great grandchildren, Anthony, Elena, Gianna, and Serafina Fiorvento. He was predeceased by his loving parents Libero and Annunziata Fiorvento, his dear brothers and sisters, Giuseppe (Serafina) Fiorvento, Antonio (Anne) Fiorvento, Cristina (Antonio) Semile, Donata (Pasquale) Valente and Giuseppina Fiorvento as well as his caring mother and father in law, Pasquale and Dearest son in law of the late Pasquale and Cesidia Morga. Nicola will be forever remembered by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral Thursday Instate 9:45 a.m. at Assumption Grotto Church 13770 Gratiot Ave (between 7 Mile and McNichols) until time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery.
