CASTILLO, LYDIA M. Age 86 May 27, 2026. Beloved wife of Ramon "Ray" of 66 years and together they built a family deeply shaped by faith, love, service, humor, and tradition. Loving mother of Mike (Darcy) Castillo, Steve (Tracey) Castillo & Sondra Castillo. Proud grandmother of Anthony Aron, Seve (Kylie) Castillo, Michael Aron, Lexi Castillo, Sarah Aron, Katie Castillo & Steven Castillo. Dearest sister of Roman (Felice) Berezinski & the late John (the late Connie) Berezinski. Lydia was a devoted Catholic, and her faith was central to the way she lived. Her family consistently remembers her praying the Rosary, saying grace before meals, and trusting in God’s plan even during difficult times. Faith was not something she only spoke about. It was part of her daily rhythm and part of the example she gave to her children, grandchildren, and extended family. She was also very much the heart of the family. Her love was often expressed through action, especially through cooking, feeding people, caring for the home, praying for others, checking in on family, and making sure everyone felt looked after. Family members describe her home as a place of warmth, food, conversation, laughter, and belonging. Many of the memories shared are simple moments, sitting at the kitchen counter, drinking coffee, sharing meals, watching television together, hearing her laugh, or receiving one of her hugs. Lydia was strong, independent, honest, hardworking, and deeply loving. She had experienced hardship in her life, including immigrating from Ukraine to Detroit as a child, and those experiences shaped her resilience and gratitude. She taught her family through example, showing them how to keep going, how to care for one another, how to be grateful, and how to trust God. Her family also remembers her humor and personality. Although she was petite, she had a presence that filled the room. She was witty, sometimes sassy, very honest, and able to make ordinary moments joyful. She was the kind of person who made people feel at home, while also keeping everyone connected and accountable. Overall, Lydia is remembered as a woman whose life was centered on God and family. Memorial Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 3-8pm with 7:00pm Scripture Service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. (SHELBY TOWNSHIP). Memorial gathering will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 beginning at 9:30am at St. Kieran Church 53600 Mound Rd. (btw. 24 & 25 Mile Rds.) until time of Memorial Mass at 10:00am.
