Lorraine Blaty

Lorraine Blaty, 93, passed away peacefully on February 15th, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and a life well lived. She was born in East Orange, New Jersey and was raised in Pittston, Pennsylvania, where she attended High School and was a majorette. She was incredibly close to her sister Lois and her cousins, developing friendships that she cherished throughout her life. She eventually moved to Detroit, Michigan where she worked as a PBX telephone operator and met the love of her life, Don, through a blind date set up by his sister, Delores. Together, they built a loving home where they raised five children. A dedicated homemaker, she and Don created a foundation of love and support that her children rely on to this day. She was a great cook, but took extra pride in keeping her home spotless. To know Lorraine was to know a truly gregarious soul. She could strike up a conversation with anyone, and her smile was infectious. Even in her last few years she enjoyed chatting with her caregivers and sharing family stories with them. She loved dining out, shopping for a good find and indulging her sweet tooth, especially chocolate. She and Don enjoyed weekly dinners out with their close friends and neighbors, and Lorraine frequently met with friends for coffee or to discuss a good book. She enjoyed travelling and treasured the memories made on her many trips with family and friends, and frequently spoke about her visit to her homestead in Ireland. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Don, and her sister Lois Baker. She is survived by her five children: Don (Joan), Chuck (Dara), Marie (Steve) Barnes, Larry (Claire) and Michele (Tim) Myers, as well as her 10 grandchildren: Alex and Robert Barnes, Justin (Katie), Alex (Joyce), Lawrence and Kristen Blaty, Zak, Grace, Brian and Sarah Myers and many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She will be greatly missed. Instate Friday, February 20th 10:30am at St. Andrew Catholic Church until time of Mass, 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Focus Hope Detroit are appreciated.
