Leonard Lawrence Kondrat

KONDRAT, Leonard L. Age 77, August 4, 2024. Beloved husband of Margaret E. (nee Holleran) for 54 cherished years. Dearest father of Thomas (Noelle) Kondrat and Leonard S. (Laura) Kondrat. Proud grandfather of Keegan, Jonah, Mikayla, Krysia and Trinity. Dear brother of Lori Kondrat, Lawrence (Cathy) Kondrat, Kenneth (Ruth) Kondrat, Thomas (Cheryl) Kondrat and the late Janee Kondrat. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Leonard was a fun-loving relative and friend to so many whose lives he touched through his dry humor, unbounded strength, and self-sacrificing love. He was a faithful father and husband who lovingly and sacrificially provided for his family first. Leonard loved his immediate family and his extended family deeply. Leonard built decades-long friendships with many of the neighbors on Tipperary in Washington Township, living there for over 50 years. He was always willing and able to help a friend or family member renovate a house, dig out a basement, add a porch, or whatever was needed; He was a versatile handyman; You could always count on him to lend a hand. Leonard loved sports and athletic competition. Especially as a youth, he loved to compete at basketball, baseball, and football. He was a high school sports standout at St. Florian High School, graduating in 1964. He also played college basketball for Detroit Institute of Technology, and he continued to play basketball competitively for many years afterwards. His love of sports was passed on to his sons and his grandsons, Keegan and Jonah, who also played for their high school athletic teams. Leonard spent many days organizing, building, and trading his large sports card collection and it was a hobby he enjoyed sharing with his sons. Leonard also loved to play golf. He would often smile when recalling stories about himself or others’ improbable exploits on any of the local golf courses. Leonard served his country and his community. First, with the U.S. Army and later with the Township Fire Department. Leonard was also a talented musician and came from a very talented musical family. Even in his teens, Leonard played the organ at St. Florian. When his son Tom began leading music at Romeo United Methodist Church, Len played the drums. One of Leonard’s favorite poems was this (author unknown): God didn’t promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, or sun without rain. But God did promise strength for the day, comfort for tears and light along the way. And for all who believe in His kingdom of love, He answers their faith with peace from above. Leonard will be deeply missed. Although we are heartbroken, we are not without hope in Jesus Christ, and so we look forward to our reunion with Leonard one day in the presence of our Lord.
