Kevin Thomas Ferguson

LCpl, Kevin Thomas Ferguson, a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, passed away in Detroit, MI on April 6, 2026 at the age of 40. Kevin was born on March 16, 1986 in Detroit, MI. Loving son of Laurie (Mike) Kattleman and the late Kevin (surviving widow, Noreen) Ferguson. Devoted brother of Merissa (Jason) Hudnall, Jessica (Will) Weissberg and Chelsea (Jeremy) Agosta. Adored uncle of Kennedy, Elara, Nash and Lincoln. Step-brother to Chris (Brenda) Naeyaert, Michael (Katelynn) Naeyeart, and Alex (Ashley) Naeyeart. Cherished nephew, cousin and friend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lorraine and August Savage, Marjorie and Joseph Maisano; Aunt Marilyn Gabriel and Uncles Joseph Gabriel, Raymond Ferguson, Fabio Zafferani; and cousins Michael Gabriel and Aubrey Wiita. Kevin was a loving and kindhearted man. He had an infectious laugh, the most beautiful blue eyes and a beaming smile. He was the life of the party and making friends came naturally to him. Kevin always put 110% in everything he did in life. A truly brilliant sarcastic spark plug of a human being who loved fiercely arguing for the joy of it. He loved his family and friends hard, especially his mom and sisters that he shared an unbreakable bond with. He gave the best hugs that made you feel like you’d be safe for a lifetime when he let go. As a child, he enjoyed karate, baseball, hockey, wrestling, lacrosse. He was always happiest around the kitchen table, playing dice and cards with his large loving family, especially after a warm bowl of his grandma’s spaghetti. His love for hockey stayed with him throughout his life, from pond hockey as a child to playing on his high school team and later with the Michigan Warriors. An incredible writer and speaker, Kevin graduated from Specs Howard for Radio Broadcasting after attending Avondale High School. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of joining the Marine Corps, serving as a Combat Correspondent until he was medically retired. After returning to his beloved state of Michigan, he graduated from Oakland University with his Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design. At his first job after graduation, he met the love of his life, Rachel. Kevin was an incredible cook and pursued his passion by attending culinary school. Kevin was a creative soul. He loved painting, drawing, visiting the DIA and expressing himself with his many tattoos. He had a soft spot for penguins and enjoyed collecting Marvel and DC action figures, along with Funko Pops. He was passionate about music, especially Led Zepplin, Eminem, Twenty One Pilots and My Chemical Romance. His love for Detroit and all Detroit sports was unmatched. Above all, his greatest joy was his cat-child, Onyx. Kevin was a bright light who often felt the world too deeply. Despite all the joy he had in his life, he fought many battles daily. His family and friends want him to know that they see the fight he had in him, the unresolved courage and strength each day to pull himself up by his bootstraps. They want him to know that they were always fighting right beside him, even when it didn’t feel like it. We are so proud of him for all the progress he made in the last 6 months and that he never wavered from choosing to live this life with us. Kevin was sunshine for the soul and will be immensely missed by many. We will think about him each day, and hold his memory in our hearts forever.
