CLAYCOMB, Joseph Edgar Jr. Age 89. Passed July 24, 2025 Loving Father, Grandfather, Friend, Golfer, and City of St. Clair Shores Volunteer. Joseph, Joe, Ed, or Eddie was deeply devoted to his family. Beloved Husband of Lillian (White) for 67 years. Loving Father of Carolyn (Marco) Liolli and Christine (Greg) Quitter. Adored Grandfather of Sophia Liolli, Dylan Quitter and Alexis Quitter. Survived by sister-in-law Linda White. (Preceded in death by brother in law Joseph White) Nieces, Tracy (Brendan) Conlon and Kendall (Ed) Doman. Cousins Robert and Delores Pletz. Joseph Edgar Claycomb Jr. was born on April 5, 1936. He attended McKenzie High School in Detroit and graduated in 1954. He enlisted in the naval reserves on May 13, 1953 while still in High School. He volunteered for active duty in October of 1955. He boarded the USS GWIN DM33 in November of 1955. He was a Private 1st class Radioman. Released from active duty October 31, 1957. He remained in the Naval Reserve until he was honorably discharged May 12, 1961. He worked his way through College; in 1967 he graduated with a BBA from University of Detroit Evening College of Commerce and Finance. In 1969 he attended classes for his Master’s in Business Management at the University of Detroit. During this time he was also a proud member of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. He was still attending monthly lunches with his brothers at Camp Ticonderoga. Joe had a passion for work. He started as a sales representative for Pitney-Bowes. Worked as a Data Processing Manager for The Wickman Corporation. He then started his journey with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan working in the word processing center. Worked his way up and became the Manager of the Corporate Word Processing department. He retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan in 1988. Then he was a sales manager for Ramco Business Interiors. Lastly his passion for work finished with J & J Roofing as a salesman. He was an active longtime member at Lakeshore Presbyterian Church in St. Clair Shores. Served as an usher for many years with a smile or a kiss on the cheek for the ladies. Joe loved to golf! He played numerous rounds at his favorite course the St. Clair Shores Golf Course. Joe was on many leagues over the years and his favorite was the Former Eagle Pointe Golf League. In his many years of enjoying golf he made 2 Hole in One’s! He was a member of the St. Clair Shores Jaycees from 1969-1976. Proud member of the Shorewood Kiwanis from 1976-1985. Lakeview Public Schools was a big part of his life as he was elected to the School Board in 1975 became President of the Board in 1983 and remained on the School Board until 1990. Joe served on many committees in St. Clair Shores. Just to name a few: Chairman of the Water Resources Board, TIFA Board, Building Authority, Adult Education Advisory Board and the St. Clair Shores Parade Council. Joe spent 67 wonderful years with his loving wife Lillian. He was a devoted father to Carolyn and Christine. Enjoyed spending time watching the Tigers and Lions with his two son-in-law’s Marco and Greg. As well as rooting with the two of them for the Blue (U of M) and the Green (MSU). He was very proud of his three grandchildren. He enjoyed living life with them all, attending many swim meets, baseball games and film programs for each of them. Joe was always the speaker and leader of many groups. The ladies would watch for him in many St. Clair Shores Memorial Day parades! They called him the kissing bandit. His smile was infections and his words were always kind. Joe’s smile will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In Joe Claycomb fashion he would shake your hand and say, “Stay Safe!” Memorial visitation on Thursday, August 7th from 3-8pm with sharing memories of Joe at 7pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). There will be a church Memorial Service for Joe at Lakeshore Presbyterian Church 27801 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores, MI. on August 8th at 10:30 AM. After the Memorial the family will have a luncheon to Honor Joe at Assumption Cultural Center located at 21800 Marter Road. St. Clair Shores, MI. In lieu of flowers donations appreciated to Disabled American Veterans or Lakeshore Presbyterian Church.
