Hugh Ross, Jr.

Hugh Ross, age 67 of Shelby Township, Michigan, died on May 25, 2025. Hugh is the loving husband of Susan Ross. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Rita Ross, and his sister, Margaret. He is the dear brother of William (Patricia), Rita, James, and Thomas (Lisa). Hugh is survived by his nieces, Jennifer, Kennedy and Julia, and nephews, James (Stacie), Robert (Antonette), Brian (Ashley), Jonathan (Melina), Michael (Kathryn), Joseph (Dawn), and John (Aimee} and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Hugh was born in Detroit and spent his entire life in Michigan, surrounded by a large extended family and numerous colleagues and friends. He was a quiet, gentle man with a brilliant mind and wicked sense of humor. Hugh's dedication to his career was unwavering. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1975, and then earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Lawrence Technological University graduating Cum Laude. He furthered his education with an MBA from the University of Michigan-Flint. His commitment to excellence was evident in his maintenance of his Professional Engineer (PE) certification throughout his 33-year career with Ford Motor Company. Hugh's contributions to the automotive industry are noteworthy. He made distinctive design contributions that were recognized with the Automotive Innovation Award from the Society of Plastics Engineers for Structural A/C ducts using vibration welding. His leadership roles as a Module Team Leader and Engineering Supervisor were marked by his successful completion of numerous Six Sigma and High-Mileage Projects, earning him the title of a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Hugh's love for yoga was a significant part of his life. He enjoyed many years as an Iyengar yoga practitioner and instructor. His dedication to the practice was evident in his long-time membership with the Yoga Association of Greater Detroit, where he served as a Board Member and organizer for Yoga Day, an annual event open to the public to expose people to yoga from a variety of teachers and styles. He shared his passion for yoga with others by teaching private and college-based lessons, encouraging all to experience the benefits of the practice. The family will gather with friends on Saturday, June 21st, at 10:00 AM for a time of remembrance and sharing of memories. They will then celebrate his life at a 10:30 AM memorial Mass at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 54045 Schoenherr Road, Shelby Township, MI 48315.
