Gerald "Jerry" Benyola

On January 17, 2026, at the age of 86, Gerald Benyola, lovingly known as "Jerry," was called home to be with the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of firm faith, unwavering love, and humble service. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished friend, and faithful Christian, Jerry lived a life that reflected God’s love in action - quietly, sincerely, and never for recognition. Jerry was a man of deep and abiding faith who walked closely with God throughout his life. His faith shaped who he was and how he treated others - with kindness, patience, and grace. He believed in doing what was right, working hard, and helping others simply because it was the right thing to do. Countless lives were touched by his generosity, often without ever knowing it was him, as Jerry preferred to serve quietly and without praise. As a minister in The Church of Jesus Christ, Jerry shared the message of salvation with many, with a special devotion to the Native American work within the church. In his younger years, he proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years, a commitment that reflected his strong sense of duty, responsibility, and selflessness - values that guided him throughout his life and were evident in the way he cared for his family and community. Jerry was a simple man who welcomed everyone with an open heart and never spoke in judgment of others. He placed little value on material things, believing instead that time spent with people he loved was life’s greatest gift. And while he lived humbly, he faithfully enjoyed life’s small comforts - never missing his daily cup of tea with honey and his beloved butter pecan ice cream. Jerry often said the two greatest moments of his life were July 7, 1957, the day he gave his life to his friend and Savior, Jesus Christ, and October 21, 1961, the day he married the love of his life, Rose Pontillo. With tears in his eyes, he lovingly referred to "Rosie" as his little angel, a gift provided by God. Even as his own health declined, Jerry made it his purpose to care for Rose, ensuring that all her needs were met with tenderness and devotion. A Ford employee and master plumber by trade, Jerry took great pride in his work and approached his craft with integrity, skill, and dedication. Known for his strong work ethic, he willingly shared his expertise with anyone in need - often helping others without expecting anything in return. His hands built, repaired, and provided for his family, church, and community, reflecting the same care, humility, and faith that guided his life. Jerry was a hardworking provider and protector who led his family by example. His love was steady, selfless, and unconditional. As a husband, he was loyal and devoted. As a father, he was guiding and supportive. As a grandfather, he was caring and kind. As a friend, he was trustworthy, gentle, and sincere. He had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for. Those who knew Jerry will remember his humility, gentle strength, and the peace he carried with him. He was truly a beautiful man - inside and out - whose life reflected love, faith, and selflessness. Jerry was the devoted husband of Rose and a loving father to Michelle Sims-Benyola and Darlene (David) Lovalvo. He was an adored grandfather to Brittany (Angelo) Amalio, Ashley (Alex) Seley, Sydney Lovalvo, and Jack Lovalvo, and a proud great-grandfather to Olivia, Giovanni, Briella, and Lorenzo. Jerry was a cherished brother to Ray and Dennis, a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Anne, as well as his siblings Dolly Cervone, Louis, and Tom. While he will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the countless hearts he touched and in the faith-filled example he leaves behind.
