Frances Ann Birdwell

Frances Ann Birdwell (née Gearhart), lovingly known as Fran, passed away at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of deep faith, unwavering love, and a life centered around family. For 65 beautiful years, Fran shared a devoted and enduring marriage with her beloved husband, Eddie “Frank” Birdwell. Together, they built a life rooted in partnership, faith, and quiet, steadfast love. She was a proud and loving mother to Lauren Birdwell, Brian N. Birdwell (Lynne), and Kerrie Birdwell, and found her greatest joy in her family. Fran was a cherished grandmother to Corey Birdwell, Brian F. Birdwell (Megan Morell), and Brooke Zucarro (Joseph), and a loving great-grandmother to Jackson Birdwell and Aubree Birdwell. Her love for her family ran deep and constant—felt in her presence, her care, and the way she made each person feel seen and held. Fran was the dear sister of Linda Collie (Don), and was preceded in death by her siblings Billie Smith (Don) and John Gearhart (Beverly), as well as her parents, John and Elna (Truell) Gearhart. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were touched by her kindness. Her faith was the foundation of her life. Fran proudly proclaimed Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was a devoted, longtime member of the Troy Church of Christ. Within her church community, she was affectionately known as “the Candy Lady”—a title that perfectly captured her gentle, giving spirit and her love for children, who were naturally drawn to her warmth. Fran spent over 30 years working as an optician, including 15 years as a franchise owner of DOC Optical. She approached her work the same way she approached life—with care, dedication, and pride. Outside of work, Fran found joy in the simple, meaningful things. She loved crocheting, completing jigsaw puzzles, golfing, making jewelry, and traveling with Frank. She also had a special love for collecting angels—each one a quiet reflection of the faith, comfort, and beauty she carried within her. Above all else, Fran will be remembered for the way she loved—fully, unconditionally, and without hesitation. She was a steady presence, a source of comfort, and a woman whose life spoke through her actions more than words. To be loved by Fran was to know warmth, safety, and grace. A celebration of Fran’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18th at the Troy Church of Christ, 800 Trombley Rd., Troy. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Troy Church of Christ.
