Floyd Louis Medalia

Fiore “Floyd” Medalia, age 90, of Sterling Heights, MI passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024. On September 17, 1933, Floyd was born to Fioramonte and Eva Medaglia in Detroit. When he was just 19 years old, his parents tragically passed away. After their passing, Floyd took a job working at the Grand Trunk Railroad behind the Michigan Train Station, while also becoming guardian to his younger sisters, Angela Rose and Mary. In 1967, Floyd met Virginia Hassu, and they married shortly after in January 1968. They had two beautiful children, Lisa and Michael. Floyd had many jobs throughout his career, and graduated from Northwood University with a Bachelors degree while working full-time. After he retired from his job as a consultant at EDS, he took a job at Target. He loved chatting with customers and working the food court, where he constantly tried to improve the menu. Floyd was an avid baseball fan all his life, and could often be found watching the Detroit Tigers. He loved to read, and always spoke about his friends at the Sterling Heights Library who continued to feed his love for a good mystery. He enjoyed cooking which included canning sauce and making sausage from scratch with his son, often enlisting his son-in-law or grandchildren to turn the crank on the grinder. He gifted his family a cookbook that combined detailed family recipes with his family’s Italian heritage. That book is treasured by Floyd’s family, and will serve as a reminder of the importance of family for generations to come. Floyd treasured being a husband, a father, an uncle, a brother, and a grandfather. He never stopped talking about his three granddaughters - Bailey, Miranda and Kendall. He often traveled to visit Lisa and Michael as they lived cross country and overseas for their jobs, but he was happiest at home with his wife, Virg. This past January, Floyd and Virg celebrated 56 years of marriage. At 90 years old, Floyd still had many friends, but his relationship with his dearest baby sister Rosie is the one he cherished the most. Floyd brought immeasurable joy, laughter, and love into the lives of everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all, but it is comforting to know that more than seventy years later, he will be reunited with his parents once again. Visitation is Sunday, July 14th from 3-8pm.
