BIRDWELL, Eddie Franklin "Frank". With hearts full of gratitude for a life faithfully lived, we announce the passing of Eddie “Frank” Franklin Birdwell, who entered into eternal rest on June 30, 2026, at the age of 86. Frank was born on June 1, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away peacefully in Clinton Township, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family, church, and community. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Frances Ann Birdwell; his parents, Harvey and Lucille Birdwell; his sisters, Noble and Margaret; and his brother, Gerald Birdwell. Frank is lovingly remembered by his children, Lauren, Brian Neal, and Kerrie; his grandchildren, Corey, Brian Franklin, and Brooke; his great-grandchildren, Jackson and Aubree; and many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews whose lives were enriched by his love and example. A 1959 graduate of Fitzgerald High School, Frank built a remarkable career through hard work and dedication. He owned and operated an automotive supply business for 25 years before owning two DOC franchises for an additional 15 years. The most meaningful chapter of his professional life came during his 20 years serving families alongside the funeral directors at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc., where his compassionate spirit and genuine care for others found their perfect calling. While Frank valued meaningful work, his greatest passions were his faith, his family, and serving others. A devoted member of Troy Church of Christ for 65 years, he faithfully served as both an Elder and Deacon, offering quiet leadership, wisdom, and encouragement to generations of church members. His commitment to serving the community extended beyond his church through Kiwanis, where he proudly served as both President and Lieutenant Governor. Whether mentoring others, organizing community service, or simply offering a helping hand, Frank exemplified a life devoted to making the lives of others better. Frank found joy in golfing, traveling, and creating lasting memories with his family and church family. Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit, humble heart, generous nature, steadfast faith, and genuine kindness. He never sought recognition for the good he did, yet his influence reached countless lives through simple acts of compassion, integrity, and love. His legacy is not measured by accomplishments alone, but by the people he loved, the faith he lived, and the example he quietly set each day. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In accordance with his wishes, Frank donated his body to Wayne State University School of Medicine, where his wife had previously chosen to make the same gift in service to medical education. A memorial service will be held at Troy Church of Christ, 800 Trombley (W. of Rochester Rd., N. of Big Beaver) on Saturday, August 1 at 11am.
