Daniel Joseph Orban

Daniel Joseph Orban, born on July 6, 1935 in Hamtramck, MI, passed away on December 28th, 2025 (90 years old) at his home in Sterling Heights, MI. Dan leaves behind a cherished legacy of love and commitment as a husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Henrietta; his six children and their spouses, Kenneth (Pauline), Mark (Cheryl), Linda, Kimberly (Paul), Susan, and Sharon (Kevin); his grandchildren and their spouses Daniel (Sonja), Jamie (Dale), David, Amanda, Nicholas, Colin, James, Joseph (Laura), Alec, Alexis, Cianna, Bethlyn (Grant), and William; his great-grandchildren Kinley, Dalton, Poppy, and Arlo; and his sister Christine, sister-in-law Margaret, sons-in-law Bob and Lind, niece Becky (Scott), and grand-nephews William and Jacob. Daniel’s family that had previously departed include his parents Anthony and Casimira, brother Steve, and brother-in-law Michael. Daniel was born of Polish immigrants and grew up in Hamtramck, MI where his family operated their own butcher business. Simultaneous to starting a family, he studied engineering and began a long and productive career with Chrysler Corporation. Throughout his life, he pursued many hobbies, especially the collection of sports cards and coins, was an avid bowler and golfer, and remained an ever-hopeful Detroit Tigers fan. He traveled frequently throughout his life with Henrietta, often with friends or to see beloved family across the world. Dan was also committed to his Catholic faith and served as an active contributor to his local Knights of Columbus council and church parish. Daniel will always be most known as a man deeply devoted to his family. Throughout their 70 years together, Dan and his wife Henrietta – the “Sweet” to her “Danny” – modeled for many the elements to a successful marriage: kindness, humility, devotion, and a healthy dose of humor. As a father, Dan was a role model of patience and wisdom. It was through this that his children each learned how to be great parents themselves. As a grandfather, Dan always showed up – cheering as your #1 sports fan, helping with homework or coaching a new skill, landing the perfect joke when a laugh was needed, and sharing calm, steady wisdom from a life well-lived. Daniel’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family, where he will always be remembered as someone who truly embodied unconditional love. Viewing and service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway in Sterling Heights, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30th from 3:00pm-8:00pm, and a funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 31st. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a tree be planted or donations be made to the Knights of Columbus or the American Lung Association.
