JOHNSON, William H. January 7, 2024. age 84, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, MI surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 26, 1939, in Detroit, MI, to Kenneth and Louise Bagatini Johnson. On September 29, 1962, he married the love of his life, JoAnn Spina in Detroit. Bill, as he was affectionately known, was a hard-working man who owned and operated Ultra-Lite Supply, Co. in Warren for over 30 years. Previously, he was a driver salesman for Great Lakes Meat Packing, and prior to that worked at the Eastern Market with his father. Bill's dedication and strong work ethic were evident throughout his life. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bill was drafted in the United States Army where he honorably served during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1965. He was very proud of his military service and the ability to serve the country he loved. Bill enjoyed various hobbies throughout his life. He loved spending time at the family cabin on Drummond Island and then Loon Lake, fishing, hunting, and coaching his kids in baseball, softball and basketball. When he was done coaching, he became the biggest fan of whatever team or activity his kids and grandkids participated in. He had a passion for birds and took pleasure in feeding and observing them. He thoroughly enjoyed his time as an usher and greeter at Grace Christian Church. He was a jokester and loved making everyone laugh. He was a friend to everyone he met and treasured every one of his friendships, old and new. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren, whom he cherished dearly. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, JoAnn Johnson of Warren, his children, Craig (Ann) Johnson of West Branch and Cheryl (Chuck) Hagyard of Macomb Twp., and his grandchildren, Grace, Michael, Brandon, Bryan, Claire, and Katie. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara (Kenneth) Gehlert of Grosse Pointe Farms, and sister-in-law, Dianne Johnson of Bingham Farms, as well as many in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Kenneth (Sharon) Johnson, Edward (Jackie) Johnson, and Jack Johnson. A memorial service will be held at Grace Christian Church, located at 33801 Van Dyke Ave., Sterling Heights, MI 48312, on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 2 PM. Visitation will begin at 11 AM. Pastor Jerry Weinzierl will officiate the service. Burial of ashes, with military honors, will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family which will be sent to a charity of their choosing. Arrangements were handled by Wujek-Calcaterra Funeral Home in Sterling Heights.
