Dr. Thomas W. Cencer

CENCER, Dr. Thomas W. Tom passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026 at the age of 69. He was the beloved husband of Susan (nee Malecke) for 48 wonderful years. Proud father of Bethany (David) Blake, Jenny (Peter) Sharbaugh, Jeremy (Ashley), Shawn (Janet) and Caroline. Adored grandfather of Nora, Abigail, Kira, Elizabeth, Amelia, Melanie and Bonnie. Survived by his brother Steven (Christine). Predeceased by his parents Thomas A. and Dorothy; and his brothers Richard, David, Timothy, Ronald and Kenneth. Tom’s abounding love of family was paralleled by a reverent admiration for nature, a deep enthusiasm for sports (especially his alma mater - the Michigan Wolverines), and a friendly and caring approach to all people. He always put others’ needs ahead of his own. He was a role model for many, guided by faith. Uplifted by music and fellowship, he was always quick to share his favorite songs and stories with others. A dentist for 44 years, he ran his own successful dental practice in Rochester Hills for nearly 30 of those years, where he and his staff positively impacted thousands of lives. The countless smiles he helped sculpt were a reflection of his own signature smile and sense of humor, as well as a testament to his selfless devotion to serving others. Public visitation will be held at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons (Shelby Twp) on Friday, August 21 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm, with a Rosary service at 7:00pm (54880 Van Dyke @ 25 Mile Rd). Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church with instate at 9:30am until time of Mass at 10:00am (343 S. Main St Romeo). In lieu of flowers, Tom’s family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the Karmanos Cancer Institute - Eisenberg Center for Translational Therapeutics.
