Susan Marie Reno

RENO, Susan Marie. June 30, 2024. Susan Reno passed away on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, with her family surrounding her and her beloved husband and best friend Dr. Don by her side, just as he’d been for 36 incredible years. Born in Detroit to Christine and the late Roy Purchiaroni, Susan was the eldest sister of Janice (Chuck) Smith, Laura (Edward) LaPonsie, and John Purchiaroni, who predeceased her. She and Don made their home in the far east side suburbs, where they ran a successful business together for more than three decades and enjoyed a wide social circle. Susan was pragmatic, organized, and fashionable, with a fabulous collection of shoes. She was sarcastically funny, and had a flare for story telling and perfectly timed one liners. She took excellent care of herself, and was in peak physical shape when she took ill, even able to hold a plank for a whopping four minutes. She loved coffee; the salmon caesar salad (and the staff) at her favorite eatery, Rochester Bistro; helping people on their wellness journey; being outdoors, especially hiking up north or spending a day on the water; spoonfuls of peanut butter; puppies ; and enjoying a nice glass of wine, particularly in the company of Don and the people she loved. In additional to her many friends, some she’d known since childhood, Susan’s absence will be felt within her large extended family. She was the daughter-in-law of Margaret and Don Reno, sister-in-law of David (Kelly) Reno, aunt of Jessica (Daniel) Simmons, Nickolas (Diana) Sanchez, Michael (Kimberlee) Smith, Daniel Smith, AnnMarie (Kirk) Sanderson, and Julie Falther, and “great” aunt of CJ, Roman, Colin, Eleanor, Leo, Evana, Adelaise, Emmett, and Alister, and she enjoyed staying connected to her many cousins. She was predeceased by her baby daughter, Lauren, who was waiting to meet her in Heaven, right beside Sue’s favorite dog: Her golden retriever, Riley. Susan approached her health battle in the same way she approached every other challenge she encountered in her 67 years- with a brave face, a positive mindset, and a little bit of lipstick. She loved her life right up to the very end and was openly thankful for the time she’d been given, and for the kindness and support that were extended to her and Don throughout her brief illness. A Celebration of Susan’s Life is currently being planned.
