Shirley Agnes Snow

Shirley A. Snow Age 91, of Grosse Pointe Woods, passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2026. Shirley was the beloved daughter of the late Robert Simpson and Julia Veronica Simpson, and the devoted wife of the late Gordon Snow, with whom she shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. A Detroit native, Shirley was a champion synchronized swimmer with the St. Clair Synchronettes. She helped introduce the sport internationally, exhibiting at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, Finland, and the Pan American Games in Brazil. She was inducted into the Synchronized Swimming Hall of Fame in 1963 and later honored as a pioneer of the sport at the 1984 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Shirley’s heart for service was just as legendary. For 30 years she worked with Meals on Wheels, overseeing the delivery of nearly half a million meals to homebound seniors in the Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods communities. Above all, Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She raised eight children while being their biggest cheerleader and most faithful supporter. She was known for her fierce euchre skills, her love of reading, and her joyful spirit. She invented the “Birthday Corner” and was the ultimate gift giver—believing always that it was far better to give than to receive. Lovingly nicknamed “Jackie O” for her class and beauty, Shirley’s true radiance came from her faith, generosity, and unconditional love for others. She made every meal feel special and baked countless loaves of her famous pumpkin bread. She delighted in walks along Lake Shore, boating, swimming, music, laughter, and time with family. A prayer warrior who believed deeply in miracles, she lived her life anchored in faith and gratitude. She is survived by her loving children: Jennifer (J.T.) McGuire, Elizabeth (Jack) Nelson, Gordon (Shannon) Snow, Susanne (David) Babcock, Paul Snow, Julia (Brian) O’Donnell, Christine (Michael) Wujek, and Laura (Joe) Coraci, and was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa Kathleen. She was the proud grandmother of David (Lisa) and Lauren Stavale, Emmi and Nolan Snow, Ryan Babcock, Julia (Jonathan) Bellingham, Brandon Babcock, Christian Snow, Katherine Snow (Gabe Callery), Sean and Cece O’Donnell, Olivia Wujek (fiancé Jacob Lightman), Harrison (Genevieve) Wujek, Saga Snow, Miles Wujek, Nico and Lexi Coraci; and great-grandmother of Ava and Hudson Stavale, Sophia McLellan, Zoe Bellingham, and Parker Callery. Shirley was also the dear sister of the late Joan York and the late Robert Simpson. Also survived by many loving nieces & nephews. Her legacy of faith, love, generosity, and joy will live on in every life she touched. In state Saturday, February 21st from 9:30am until the 10:00am Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church (22412 Overlake St. St Clair Shores, MI 48080).
