Robert Ray Strang

Robert Ray “Bob” Strang was born June 26, 1939 to William A. Strang and Helen Strang (nee Cento) in Warren, Michigan. An entrepreneur at a young age, Bob spent his childhood delivering papers, and when he wasn’t playing basketball with friends, he spent his teen years working as a custodian at a local grade school. He attended Fitzgerald High School and William Penn College before transferring to Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now known as Truman State University), where he met his loving wife of 57 years, Karen (nee Jacobs). A high school math teacher for 27 years, Bob received his master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. Simultaneously a teacher and a business owner for over two decades, Bob founded Air Conditioning Engineers in 1969 and ran the company for more than 50 years. Bob was a mentor to many and had an unparalleled work ethic, at various points in his career serving as both President and Vice President of the Michigan Air Conditioning Contractors Association. Bob loved to travel to the cottage Up North and to the condo he shared with his wife in Naples, Florida. He enjoyed spending time on the water and feeding the swans and fish. An adventurer by nature, Bob always dreamed of becoming a pilot, and often sought out exciting new experiences such as driving a NASCAR race car, flying in a glider, and co-piloting a biplane. In his spare time, he was constantly reading and puttering around. Bob was a beloved husband of Karen and cherished father of Julie (Jack) Costello and Sheri Lynne Strang; a proud grandfather of Emily (Amanda) Costello and Sarah Costello; and a dear brother of Jerry Strang and Chris Strang. He will also be greatly missed by two nieces, one nephew, one great niece, and many other family and friends. Visitation Sunday 3-8pm and Monday 9:30am until time of service, 10:30am, at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. (Shelby Township) 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. Interment at White Chapel Cemetery.
