GUNOW JR., ROBERT FRANKLIN Age 79 August 1, 2023. Beloved husband of Gail for 60 years. Loving father of Karen (Joe) White, Debra Osuch, Jennifer (Rob) Turner & the late Robert F. Gunow III. Proud Grandpa "Dadoo" of Joseph (Rachel) White, Kate White, Nicholas Osuch, Olivia Osuch, Austin Osuch & Luke Turner. Dearest brother of Barbara Dingo, Sandy (Nancy) Gunow & Sue (Gary) Workman. Robert was a member of the F.O.P and the Metal Treating Institute. Bob was a family man above all. His family was the most important part of his world. To support the family he loved, he rolled up his sleeves and from the ground-up, started his own business in the early 80’s, Vac-Met, Inc. He was a skilled metallurgist providing vacuum heat-treating services that made a notable impact in the world of aerospace and medical technology. He had a zest of life and could light up a room without seeking to be the center of attention. Bob was an extraordinary storyteller. Bob was unselfish, loving and generous. He was a philanthropist. He saw the good in people and provided them with enormous help behind the scenes to enable them to realize their greatest potential. Bob served as a Detroit Police Reserve officer in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. He later became an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), where he volunteered his service on the Board of Directors. Bob worked hard and played hard. Though he retired only one year ago, he did not wait to make travel and spending time with family and friends a priority. “Cruising, cruising, cruising” was his mantra as he boarded many a cruise ship. He loved feeding his birds and squirrels. Affectionately known as “Dadoo” to his six grandchildren, he referred to them as his “alligators.” At birthdays and Christmas, he appreciated a gift of Old Spice more than any other. To the delight of his alligators, he feigned surprise every time he opened a bottle. Visitation Sunday 3-8pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. (SHELBY TOWNSHIP). Funeral Monday Instate 10:30am St. Andrew Church 1400 Inglewood Ave. (S. of Tienken & E. of Rochester Rds.) until time of Mass at 11:00am. Donations are welcome St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
