FILANGI, Philomena, (Fanny), It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving, beautiful mother. Philomena “Fanny” Filangi (née Catenacci) passed away peacefully at the age of 90, surrounded by the love and comfort of her devoted family. Fanny was the cherished wife of the late Onorio Filangi and a dedicated mother to Sandra (Antonio) DiRezze and Rosanna (Michael) Tawney. She was the proud and adoring grandmother of Justin (Arghavan) DiRezze, Adam (Madison) Tawney, Eric Tawney, Michael (Jen) DiRezze, and David (Chandler) Tawney. Her joy was made complete in recent years by her beloved great-grandson, Liam Antonio DiRezze, who brought endless light into her life. Fanny is survived by her brother, Anthony (Fran) Catenacci, her sister, Clara (Quirino) Longo, and many nieces and nephews. She is reunited in peace with her parents, Valentino and Anna Catenacci, her sister, Mary (Ugo) D’Agostini, and her sister-in-law, Rosa (Pompilio) Catallo. Fanny’s warmth and devotion were most evident in the kitchen, where she lovingly prepared Sunday dinners for her family, creating cherished memories that will endure for generations. Her heart was deeply tied to the beauty of annual family trips to Mackinac Island and Bay Harbor, where laughter and togetherness flourished. Beyond her family, Fanny’s life was defined by her steadfast faith and her compassion for others. She found profound fulfillment in supporting Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, dedicated to improving the lives of children in need. A poet at heart, Fanny often turned to her writing as a source of solace and connection, using her words to honor the loved ones she held in her heart and the prayers she lifted for them. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Jan and Vera, whose years of dedicated care brought comfort and dignity to Fanny’s life. The Filangi family would also like to thank everyone who touched Fanny’s life with kindness and friendship. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Missionaries of Charity, 1917 Cabot St., Detroit, MI 48209, in honor of Fanny’s unwavering generosity and love. Visitation Friday, December 27th, from 4 - 8 pm with a 7 pm Rosary Service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile Rd.). A funeral service celebrating Fanny’s life will be held at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church on Saturday, December 28th, 2024, with an instate at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM.
