Nello "Neil" Colella

May 4, 1941 - June 2, 2022

COLELLA, Nello "Neil". June 2, 2022. Age 81. Beloved husband of the late Teresa (nee Mead). Loving father of Cathy (Scott Smith) Colella and Denise Colella Bush. Adored grandfather of Francesco, Alex, Giacobi and Lucia. Dearest brother of Maria Pia Lumley, the late Igea Torti and the late Linda Centofanti. Predeceased by his parents Romolo and Adele (nee Puzzuoli). Neil was born on May 4, 1941 in Casalvieri, Italy. He immigrated to Canada at a young age with his parents and two of his three sisters. As a young man, he loved to play baseball, basketball and soccer. He attended W.D. Lowe School in WIndsor, Ontario. One of his first jobs, delivering TV Guides, helped him realize his career calling; he was fascinated by the printing process and loved the smell of ink on paper. He would later serve as a printing apprentice in Tilbury, Ontario and work at The Tilbury Times, The Windsor Star, Grand Rapids Press and The Detroit News before starting his own business. Neil owned and operated a small successful printing company for over 40 years. The business was a family affair with friends and loved ones often running the presses and working on the collating and stapling. Neil was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and eating a beautiful meal. He loved to dance and sing and he generally had a joyful spirit. He was very proud of and adored his daughters and grandchildren. And was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a passionate person who was not afraid to express his emotions. In his later years, he remained very active and energetic. He loved to walk outdoors, lift weights and exercise. He enjoyed spending time with his cousins, reading and Detroit Redwing hockey. Neil was happy to share health tips, red wine and his pasta fagioli recipe. He would often jump in the car and head to Windsor to visit his sisters and their families. Visitation Friday from 3-8pm with a 7pm Scripture Service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Instate 9:30 am until the time of 10 am Mass at St. Joan of Arc Parish Center, 22412 Overlake St, St Clair Shores, MI 48080. In lieu of flowers, plant a tree or have a nice walk in the woods.
