March 14, 1926 - April 9, 2022

LaRaia, Michael E. April 9, 2022. Age 96. Beloved husband of the late Marjorie. Loving father of Michael (Mary Ann), Ann Marie Riddell (Donald), Ronald (Cindi Adams), Suzanne Stansell (Terry), Denise Shoaf (Wayne), Mary Jo Zeolla(Ronald), Janet Saad (Peter), Karen Sharp (Bradley). Proud and adored grandfather of 19 and great grandfather of 27. Cherished brother of Theresa. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Delores, stepmother Victoria and brothers Vincent and George. Michael was born in Utica, New York to George and Mary Delores LaRaia on March 14, 1926. He married Marjorie Trierweiler on November 17, 1945 in Westphalia, Michigan and celebrated 74 years of marriage together. Michael was the proud father of eight children, 19 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren. He took pleasure and comfort knowing he would live on through his children. Michael was a hard working and honorable man, providing for his family working for the Chrysler Corporation as a wood model maker for 30 years. He descended from a long line of Italian master woodworkers, passing on this talent and legacy to his sons. MIchael continued to share his time and talent in the redesign and remodel of numerous churches throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit. He collaborated with artist Margaret Cavanaugh building her alters, lecterns, presider designs. He masterfully framed many of her stained glass windows. Michael enjoyed time with his family, playing the organ and speed skating. He took pride in maintaining his home both inside and out to perfection. Funeral Wednesday Instate from 10:30am until time of 11am Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church, 40501 Hayes Rd. (Between 17 & 18 Mile). Entombment Resurrection Cemetery.
