Maria Severini

Maria Severini, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 18, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Aldo Severini; loving mother of Gloriana (Marcello) Casadei, Edward (Diana) Severini, and Frank (Kym) Severini; proud grandmother of Cesare (Leah), Romina (Erin), Veronica (Alex), Genevieve (Ethan), and Magnus; and cherished great-grandmother of Xavi, Luca, Noah, Elio, and Rafael. She was also the dearest sister-in-law of Iliana Cappuccini and cousin of Maria Casadei. Born in the Republic of San Marino on November 28, 1932, Maria grew up with humble beginnings before making the journey to America to build a new life. She brought with her a courage that would define her, an independent spirit that could not be contained, and a determination to live life on her own terms. Maria had a remarkable appetite for life and an enduring love of freedom and adventure. She embraced new places, new experiences, and new challenges with a curiosity that stayed with her well into her nineties. She was not content to sit on the sidelines or let age dictate what she could do. She wanted to explore, to learn, to create, and to keep moving forward. If ever there were a Renaissance woman, it was Maria. She could cook, paint, sing, garden, sew, dance, cut hair, and grow tomatoes worthy of the State Fair. She could nurture a rose garden with extraordinary skill and master new technology well into her later years. Even in her nineties, she could be found making her way down to the basement, preparing homemade pasta, or trying a new recipe she discovered online. Her resourcefulness and creativity knew few bounds. Her strength was tested many times throughout her life, but she met adversity with a stubborn determination to carry on. Age might have slowed her body, but it never quite managed to tame her spirit. Maria's formidable character came with a personality all its own. She was witty, intelligent, opinionated, and wonderfully complicated. She was also a loyal friend, someone who valued the people in her life and remained true to those she cared about. Maria was particular about her cooking, fiercely protective of her garden, and unwavering in her convictions. She had little patience for nonsense and no interest in pretending to be anyone other than herself. With Maria, you always knew where you stood. Beneath that unmistakable strength was a deep devotion to family. Maria shared more than 60 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Aldo, a compassionate, kind, and gentle man who was her partner through life's many adventures. Together, they raised three children and built a family that grew to include five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. To them, she was Nonna or Bis—a source of love, laughter, acceptance, and lessons that will endure for generations. We will remember Maria when we venture somewhere new, prepare a favorite family recipe, tend a garden, or refuse to be told that something cannot be done. Her spirit will live on in the freedom she cherished, the independence she embodied, and the example she set for all of us. Maria lived boldly, loved deeply, and remained unmistakably herself until the end. Her legacy is one of strength, love, adventure, and a life beautifully lived. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 23rd from 3:00pm to 9:00pm at Wujek - Calcaterra & Sons Inc., (Shelby Township), 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. Instate 9:30am followed by a 10:00aqm Mass on Saturday, October 24th at San Francesco Catholic Church, 22870 S Nunneley Rd, Clinton Township, MI48035.
