FLAKER, MARGARET A. Age 81 September 13, 2026. Loving mother of Sarah (Ward) Thorp, Amy (Sam) Ghannam, Rebecca (Doug) Strechi & Matt (Emily) Flaker. Proud grandmother of 9 & great grandmother of 1. Dearest sister of the late Betty, the late Jim, the late Mary Lou & the late Jack. A beloved teacher, Margaret had a lifelong love of learning and an equally strong desire to share that love with others. Naturally curious and always engaged in the world around her, she was an avid reader, with mysteries being a particular favorite. She enjoyed history, followed current events, and kept up with her Detroit sports teams. Margaret was wonderfully creative and rarely without a project. She loved knitting, sewing, crocheting, and crafting, and you can still see her handiwork throughout her children’s and grandchildren’s homes in the curtains, blankets, and countless other things she made over the years. She was also a talented cook and baker, earning early recognition when she won a Betty Crocker award. Margaret loved to travel and was fortunate to visit destinations across the country and around the world, often with family and friends. She was naturally social and valued the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life. Her Catholic faith was an important and enduring part of her life, providing both strength and community throughout the years. Margaret was always part of something, whether it was a card group, book club, Bible study, or another gathering that gave her the opportunity to connect, learn, laugh, and enjoy the company of others. She appreciated live theater, music, and comedy, loved to shop, and had an eye for pretty things. She was generous, creative, curious, and fiercely independent. She knew her own mind and wasn’t easily persuaded otherwise, a quality those who loved her knew well. For all of Margaret’s varied interests, family remained at the center of her life. She was enormously proud of her four children, nine grandchildren, and great grandchild, and generous with her time, talents, and love. The things she made, the traditions she created, the places she traveled, and the memories she shared will continue to live on through them. Margaret lived a full life filled with family and friendships, books and projects, travel and performances, good food, spirited conversation, and an enduring curiosity about the world around her. Her family, many friends, former students, and all those fortunate enough to have known her will miss her deeply. Memorial Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 24, 2026 beginning at 9:30am at St. Kieran Church 53600 Mound Rd. (btw. 24 & 25 Mile Rds.) until time of Memorial Mass at 10:00am.
