Lawrence Martin Hallman

Lawrence Martin Hallman was born on June 12,1932 to Helen O’Connor and Herman Hallman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Northeast Catholic High School where he played clarinet and saxophone in the dance band. Beginning in 1955, his service in the U.S. Air Force at Selfridge AFB brought him to Michigan, where he met the love of his life, Alyce Marie Stapleton. Larry and Alyce were married at Immaculate Conception church in Anchorville on December 27, 1958. Larry began his 35 year career at General Motors in 1959, while attending night school at the University of Detroit and starting a family. He graduated with honors, obtaining his accounting degree in 1966, already the proud father of 3 children. Larry and Alyce settled in St. Clair Shores in 1961 and lived happily there for 64 years while raising their 5 children. His integrity and honesty were evident in his career as an accounting supervisor at G.M. His Catholic faith was tantamount in Larry’s life and shaped his marriage and fatherhood. He and Alyce supported Catholic education by sending all 5 of their children through 12 years of Catholic school while supporting each parish and school they attended. He was a staunch defender of the unborn and pro-life causes. Larry was a humble man. His greatest happiness was enjoying his wife’s culinary and creative accomplishments. He was an avid supporter of his children and grandchildren, always eager to listen and give advice to help them with school and career choices. Empathy for others and his dry sense of humor made Larry beloved to his many friends and extended family. His greatest legacy is the intelligence, kindness, and unwavering faith that he passed on to his 16 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Larry is lovingly survived by his wife of 64 years, Alyce; children Mary (John) Rupinski, Patricia (Lawrence) Hoffman, Lawrence, Jr. (Karen), Kathleen (Dennis) Cyr, Joseph (Cindy), and grandchildren Stephanie, Allison (Kyle), Theresa (Jacob), Kelly (Andrew), Jennifer, Sheilah (Ben), Elizabeth, Joey, Susan, Liam, Danny, Stephen, Erin, Matthew, Olivia, Brennan, and great-granddaughter, Nora. Larry is also survived by his brother-in-law, John “Ronnie” Redhouse, sisters-in-law, Joyce Loynd, Eileen Stapleton, and many nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Kathryn (Kay) and Susan. Visitation Wednesday, July 5th 3-9pm with a 7:00pm rosary at Wujek Calcaterra & Sons, 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 mile), Funeral Thursday July 6th, Instate 10:30am at Immaculate Conception Church (9764 Dixie Hwy. Ira Twp., Michigan 48023) until time of Mass 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Right to Life of Michigan or the Capuchins.
