Lawrence P. Canyock

Lawrence P. Canyock (Larry) passed away peacefully October 17, 2026, surrounded by loved ones and some of his favourite music. Survived by his wife Betty and children Lauren, Paul (Brittany), Suzie (late Steven Beerbohm) and his eldest Son who pre deceased his father Charles (Tammy) and grandchildren Andrew, Tyler and Zachary. Along with his chosen family members Vineet Kaul, Ellisea Groce and Sherri Hantz. Son to the late Paul and Phyllis Canyock, brother to the late Cynthia (Joe) Mugiana. Son-in-law to the late Frank and Marie Baty. A proud graduate of both Oakland University and Wayne State School of Law, he possessed a love of literature, music and the arts. He truly believed that a life of introspection and self-examination was the only way to continue to grow, adapt, and evolve into a more complete and more interesting person. He never lost his thirst for knowledge and willingness to allow his viewpoints and opinions to shift with the new information he learned. Much like his literary tastes, Dad’s passion for music crossed all genres and seems to have passed down to his children and grandchildren. Music played all day and every day…the house rarely quiet. Larry was always up for adventures and new experiences. His love of travel lead to a collection of stories and adventures many of which have a similar starting point… “oh hell, why not?”. He travelled with the intention to learn all about the culture and customs of every stop. New friendships crisscrossed the globe forming many lifelong bonds. His wisdom, humor and experiences have been shared with many, and his influence will be felt for years to come. During his illustrious legal career, he changed the lives of his clients, representing and guiding them through what was often the hardest, most difficult chapters of their lives. The career of an attorney is described in many ways; litigator, advocate, counsellor, all of which he took to heart and did his best to be all and more for his clients. In his own words “My clients hired Lawrence and were befriended by Larry”. While we are proud of his accomplishments professionally, what we will remember most is who he was as a person. We will remember his distinct, infectious laugh that was never fake, because he had no time to suffer fools…you were either funny, or you weren’t. How he loved to over-explain everything to the most minute detail, to the point, where a two-year-old Paulie would ask, “Why for you tell me all that?”. He took his job as a husband, father, and provider seriously and was never off duty constantly worrying about that we would be okay when he did pass. He loved all of us and we are all better for having him in our lives. Trying to sum up Larry, who he was and what he meant personally and professionally to his family, friends, colleagues, and clients is a hard task but can best be done by saying; He was a good and honorable man who, in his lifetime, was both successful and significant in all aspects of his life. Well done Dad, you got your Wings. Visitation Wednesday, October 21st, 2026 from 3-8pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile).
