Kostandina Sozovski

SOZOVSKI, KOSTANDINA Age 89, entered eternal rest on April 26, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Kostandina was born and raised in Bitola, Macedonia, the cherished city that would forever live in her heart. She is survived by her dear husband Atanas, her children Jelica (Lazar) Trpcevski and Blagojce Sozovski, her granddaughters Adrienne (Steven) Jancevski, Elizabeth (Riste) Stojanovski, Melissa (Nicholas) Mezin, Angela Trpcevski, and her six great grandsons: Leo and Marko Stojanovski, Stefan and Aleksandar Jancevski, and John and Josif Mezin, who affectionately knew her as “Baba Stara.” She is survived by her sister Lubisa (the late Kosta) Todorovski and was predeceased by her siblings Boris (Nedezdea) Karanofilov & Danica (Dustan) Trpkovski. Kostandina kept our hearts (and our stomachs) full. Along with her husband, she spent decades attending to her sprawling vegetable garden, cultivating tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers from seed to harvest. Kostandina’s fresh pita and kozinjak became cornerstones of every holiday. While she always remembered to include the customary lucky coin underneath, the real prize was the love and pride she baked into every dish. Instinctively, her hands knew how to roll dough, or loop yarn, or thread needles. Creating comforts of life came naturally to her, and this gift was one that she loved to share with her family; sending her granddaughters off with jars of homemade yogurt was one of her many love languages. Kostandina was a woman of devout faith; she looked to the Heavenly Father for guidance and protection, always keeping a candle lit with prayers of safety for her family and loved ones. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to expect her anointment with holy water before leaving her home. The Church was a mainstay of her life - she was an active parishioner of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Burton, MI for many decades, and she attended Liturgy until she no longer could. Every corner of her home and her heart reflected her faith in God. She was always there for every milestone and accomplishment of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was immensely proud to see her granddaughters begin their own families: her proudest role was as “Baba Stara” to her beloved great-grandsons, whose framed photos adorn every surface of her home. Like her prayer candle, the light that was Kostandina can never really extinguish. While we may not see her, we will always feel her in our presence. Our hearts will never forget someone who gave us so much to remember. Visitation Thursday 3-8pm with 7:00pm Prayers at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile (SHELBY TOWNSHIP). Funeral Friday Instate 10:00am at St. Lazarus Serbian Orthodox Cathedral 4575 Outer Dr E. at Van Dyke until time of Liturgy at 11:00am. Interment Guardian Angel Cemetery.
