MAURER, Katherine, A., "Kathy" July 8, 2026 Age 70. Kathy was a beloved wife of Bob for 50 cherished years and retired from Comerica Bank in 2022 where she had worked for over 35 years. She was a loving mother of Ken (Janice) Maurer, Katie (Ryan) Gilding, Rob (fiance Becky) Maurer and Rachel (fiance Sean) Maurer. Proud grandmother of Troy, Alex, Abigail, and Payton. Dear sister of Mark (Sue) Kawa, Pat (Shelby) Kawa, and the late Eddie Kawa. Survived by her sister-in-law Nancy Kawa. Kathy will be remembered for her kind and generous heart and for always putting others' needs above her own. She loved her Catholic faith and was a faithful servant at St. Thecla Catholic Church for 43 years. Kathy volunteered her time to teach Catechism, support the MCREST program, work in the food pantry, help at parish events as well as serving at Mass as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and sang in the choir. She found purpose in sharing her love and kindness with family and friends and found greater joy in giving than in receiving. Kathy met her husband Bob in 1973, where they both worked at Chatham Supermarkets in Centerline. Their love continued to grow until they finally married on November 12, 1976. Their 50-year marriage is a beautiful testament to the enduring love, devotion, and partnership they shared. Their life together reflected the strength of a bond built on commitment, faith and unwavering love. Kathy was also proud to be a Lions Loyal Season Ticket member with her husband Bob since 1979 and enjoyed attending both home and away games. To celebrate their upcoming 50th wedding anniversary in November, Kathy and Bob had booked a trip to Munich, Germany to see the Lions play the Patriots. Her happy place to vacation was Mackinac Island, Michigan and she got to go one last time in May to attend the annual Knights of Columbus Convention with her husband. Having an annual family Christmas celebration was important to her especially after her mom passed away. Kathy continued to carry on the family traditions of a Polish Christmas dinner and she never asked for anything for herself but was always happy to buy gifts for others and see their joy. She will be deeply missed by her children as they always knew she was just a phone call away for whatever they needed whether it was advice, encouragement, support through a difficult time or just to talk. Watching her granddaughter Abigail dance brought her immense joy and she always looked forward to her upcoming performances from recitals to the Nutcracker. She was extremely proud of her grandson Troy and the man that he has become. Visitation Monday 3-9pm with a 7pm Rosary service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile Rd). Funeral Tuesday instate 9:30am at St. Thecla Catholic Church, 20740 S. Nunneley (Enter on Kerry St. off Groesbeck) until time of Mass 10:30am. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Kathy requested that memorial contributions in her honor be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital @ www.stjude.org.
