Joseph J. Glaza

Joseph J. Glaza (July 15, 1932 - September 24, 2022) Beloved husband of Joan (nee Cocquyt) for 56 years. Loving father to Jill (Dr. Michael) Genord and Joseph (Bernadette) Glaza. Adoring grandfather to Alexandra, Hannah, Ian, and Claire Genord, and Vincent Glaza. Predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Otillia (nee Adam) and by his siblings Vincent (the late Ellen) Glaza, Patricia (the late Francis) McIntyre, William (the late Maria) Glaza, and Joan (the late John) Goetz. He is also predeceased by brother-in-law Philip (the late Roberta) Cocquyt. He is survived by his dear brother- and sister-in-law Robert and Alice Cocquyt, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Detroit, Joe attended high school and college at the University of Detroit. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he went to work at AAA Michigan, where he met Joan. He retired from AAA in 1997 and was blessed to spend the next 25 years with Joan in Michigan and Florida. They never tired of sitting on their deck in Port Sanilac watching the freighters pass by on Lake Huron and spending the winter months in Florida. Wherever Joe went, he was surrounded by numerous friends and family. From the annual July 4th pool party to the neighborhood kids hanging out, and many other gatherings, their home was open to all. Joe poured and enjoyed a good Manhattan, golfing, traveling, and all things cars, especially attending the Woodward Dream Cruise. The youngest of 5, he was affectionately called “Joey” by sisters Pat and Joan. His grandkids will always think of him when they play a game of putt-putt golf, skip rocks, see a Mickey Mouse watch or eat his favorite foods, including ribs, Coney Island chili dogs, burgers, or a fresh chocolate chip cookie. Joe was quick with a self-deprecating joke and a smile until the very end. Joe’s family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Cedarbrook of Rochester for their care, compassion, and kindness.
