Josef Knoflach

In Loving Memory of Josef Knoflach October 11, 2026 It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Josef Knoflach at the age of 89. Born and raised in St. Daniel, Austria, Josef was a man defined by adventure, resilience, and an exceptional work ethic. He spent a decade in Australia completing multiple apprenticeships and working in trades before moving to Canada, where he met Pauline. In 1972, they settled in Metro Detroit, Michigan, to start a family and build their life together. A skilled craftsman, Josef built a successful 30-year career as a toolmaker in the United States. Joe was a caring neighbor who was always happy to lend a hand, share his knowledge of home and auto repair, or offer friends a beer and a chair in his garage for good conversation. A source of love, guidance, and support, he often took on life’s burdens himself so he could shelter, protect, and provide for his family. Whether enjoying vacations, working on projects, or simply sharing time at home, both the everyday moments and larger experiences were deeply meaningful. Together, they created cherished memories and a lasting impact on his family that will carry forward for generations. We will deeply miss his laughter, his smile, and the warmth of his hugs and kisses. He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline, with whom he shared 51 cherished years of marriage; a loving father to Raymond (Jennifer) and Karl (Deborah); and a proud grandfather to James, Bridget, and Benjamin. Josef is survived by his sister, Maria (Otto) Saringer. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anneliese (Ernst) Kofele and Theresia Knoflach, and his brother, Karl (Elfriede Hecher) Knoflach. Josef will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
