John Sarti

John (Giovanni) Sergio Vito Sarti passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, after 92 remarkable years. He was born on May 4, 1933, in Corianino, San Marino, to Vincenzo Sarti and Barbara Gai. At 18, he immigrated to Detroit, where he built a life full of family, community, and hard work cheerfully done. He shared more than 60 beautiful years with his wife Patricia. Together, they raised two children and two grandchildren, explored the Caribbean, tried their luck at Detroit’s casinos, and rarely missed a dinner, dance, or card party at the San Marino Club, where John was a devoted member for more than 70 years. A master tile and terrazzo setter, he took immense pride in his craft and his longtime membership with the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union. John loved nothing more than lighting up the barbecue and gathering his family for a Sunday dinner. He delighted in WWE wrestling, rooted fiercely for the Detroit Tigers, and tended to his garden with the greenest of thumbs—especially his fig trees, grown from cuttings brought over from San Marino decades ago. A friend to all, John radiated warmth, humor, and generosity. His door was always open, and it was impossible to leave his home without sharing a story, a laugh, and at least one glass of wine. He is survived by countless beloved family and friends, including his son Steven Sarti; daughter Cynthia (Tom) Nieman; grandchildren Lindsay and Thomas (Pauline); and his great-grandchildren Liliana, Alex, and Amelia, the newest member of the family. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Patricia; and his brothers Vic (Mary), Armando (Maria), and Silvano Sarti. Visitation Friday 3-8pm with a 7:00pm Rosary at Wujek - Calcaterra & Sons Inc., (Shelby) 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. Funeral Saturday Instate 9:30am at St. John Vianney Catholic Church until Mass, 10:00am. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery.
