Jody Adam Bailiff

BAILIFF, JODY ADAM Age 75, of Shelby Twp., passed away on October 25, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jody was born August 16, 1947 to the late Riley and Ruby Bailiff in Pike County, Kentucky. Jody is survived by his beloved wife, Lynne, of 42 years. Dearest father of Katrina (Jeromie) Golab and Amber (Keith) Bevins. Proud grandfather of Lauren (Jonathan) Ray, Mackenzie Dudek, Adam Dudek and Hannah Bevins and great-grandfather of Jaxon Ray. Jody is also survived by his brother, Riley Dean Bailiff, of Spring, Texas. He was predeceased by his sister, Rosemary Slone of Fort Pierce, Florida and his brother, Steve Bailiff, of Rutledge, Tennessee. In Jody’s senior year of high school in Elkhorn City, Kentucky, his football team advanced to the State Championship finals, where they were victorious. Winning the football State Championship was one of his proudest achievements. Upon graduation from high school, Jody moved to Michigan to seek employment in the auto industry. He started working at Chrysler Mound Road Engine in 1966, where he worked for 30 years before transferring to Chrysler Headquarters in Auburn Hills to finish out his successful 38 year career at Chrysler in 2003. During those working years, many of which included 7 day/12 hour workweeks, Jody attended night school through Central Michigan University and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in General Management and a Master of Science degree in Logistics Management. He was very proud to be a CMU alumnus. Jody was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. In his retirement years, Jody felt very blessed to be able to pursue his greatest passions – golf and bass fishing. He spent many years meeting his retiree buddies on Wednesdays for breakfast and then going golfing afterward. In the winter months, the golf group would get together after breakfast and play poker all day. He looked so forward to Wednesday breakfasts, golf, and/or poker and spending time with good friends. His greatest passion; however, was fishing and he was able to spend many months of each year at our vacation condo on Cherokee Lake in Rutledge, Tennessee. This was truly his happy place. His Ranger bass boat was his pride and joy. He spent many hours on the lake with his fishing buddy, Marty Whitaker, who became more of a brother, than a friend. Jody also spent many hours with neighbors, Steve and Brenda Neas in Tennessee. They always made sure Jody had plenty to eat while he was down south and they also provided him with many wonderful hours of companionship. Steve and Brenda became family and supported Jody in good times and bad times when his health started to decline. A memorial gathering will take place at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. (Shelby Twp.) 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Road on Friday, November 4 beginning at 1:00pm and concluding with Military Honors at 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Disabled American Veterans or St. Jude Research Hospital are appreciated.
