JEAN NICOLETTI LANDA September 16, 1932 – April 22, 2021 Jean Nicoletti Landa, 88, of Shelby Township, Michigan, died at her home on April 22, 2021. Jean was the dedicated wife of Tom Landa for sixty-six years and a devoted mother to Felicia, Jill (Chuck), Santo (Julie), Danny (Karen), Angela (Lloyd), the late Gasper, Jeanne (Mark), Tommy (Tina), and Tony (Nancy). She was also the loving grandmother to eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Jean was born on September 16, 1932 in Detroit, MI to Florence and Donato Nicoletti. The youngest of five children, Jean honed her homemaking and caretaking skills at a very young age. She enjoyed home economics classes growing up and consistently cared for stray dogs in the neighborhood. After graduating from Detroit Southeastern High School, Jean joined General Motors as a Data Processor. She met a rascal named Tom at Nativity of Our Lord where he was brave enough to ask her to dance. He would later muster the courage to ask for Jean’s hand in marriage, and they tied the knot in 1954. It was then that Jean started her true life’s work as a devoted wife and mother. Jean had many qualities that most of us covet. She was extremely frugal, saving her way to provide her large family with a better life. Jean was regimented. Each day was organized with chores and meal plans. A devout Catholic, she attended church every weekend arriving thirty minutes early to the same parking space and spot on the pew. Jean was meticulously clean and organized to the point where she would comb the tassels on the rugs in her home if they weren’t perfectly straight. She was incredibly generous. Her home and her kitchen table were a gathering place for family and friends, who were always welcomed. She was also an outstanding cook. We will always remember her homemade pasta, ravioli, cannoli, and grandma cookies. As a side note, she would give you her recipes but never with the key ingredient. But without a doubt, Jean’s best trait was her commitment and devotion to her family. Family always came first for Jean. There was never a question. Raising nine children speaks volumes to her dedication and deep sense of responsibility. The tragedy of losing one, our brother Gasper, never left her. Jean grieved, but she never quit. She continued to make a great home and provide outstanding care for her family. If you had to summarize Jean in one sentence, one could simply say, “she had the qualities that separate a great mother from a good one.” Her family was blessed and fortunate to have the “great one.” She will be missed, but her legacy will continue to live in each and every one of her children and grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 28 from 3:00 – 8:00 pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons - 54880 Van Dyke, Shelby Twp. at 25 Mile Rd. Instate Thursday 11:30 at St Kieran Church, until time of 12pm Funeral Mass.
