James David Weil

James David Weil, age 92, passed away peacefully at home in Shelby Township, Michigan. He was born on February 27, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, to Ralph and Bernice Weil. James attended school at Assumption Grotto and then St. Anthony’s in Detroit. James married Joan Marie Beebe in 1956. They shared many happy years together until her passing in 2005. Together, James and Joan had seven children. James was preceded in death by his oldest child, Marie Schatz. He is survived by his other children: Lynda (Bob) Theut, Julie (Wayne) Webster, Maryjo (Clem) Sliwinski, Doug Weil (Michelle), James Weil (Sharon), and Joni (Chris) Kase . James was the proud grandfather of 36 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a great joy in his life. James cherished time spent with his family. Their home in Caseville was often overflowing with their children and grandchildren. Days and evenings were spent playing cards and games, taking boat and jet ski rides, reminiscing about family life and growing up, and sharing conversations about faith. Those simple, joyful gatherings—filled with laughter, stories, and togetherness—meant everything to him. In 2007, James married Dorothy Barrera, with whom he shared eighteen happy years of companionship, faith, and family. James and Dorothy also enjoyed travel; some of their favorites included trips to the Holy Land, Italy, and the western U.S. He is also survived by Dorothy’s family, her daughter Julie Cullen, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren that James embraced as his own. James proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1954. Following his service, he became a successful businessman, founding International Hardcoat Inc. in 1962. His work ethic, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit were defining qualities throughout his life. James was a devout Catholic his entire life and lived a deeply sacramental life. His faith was central to who he was and how he lived. He co-founded The Little Flock prayer group, led the MCREST homeless program at St. Lawrence, and generously gave his time as a Big Brother for many years. A quietly generous man, James supported numerous charities and was always ready to help those in need, often doing so privately and without recognition. Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 12th, from 3:00pm to 9:00pm with a 7:00pm Rosary at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. (SHELBY TOWNSHIP). Instate 11:30am followed by a 12:00 noon Mass on Friday, February 13th, at St. Kieran Church, 53600 Mound Rd, Shelby Twp, MI 48316. He will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery. There will be a luncheon at Fern Hill Golf Club, 17600 Clinton River Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48038, following the Mass for all those wishing to attend.
