Jacquelyn Tien Mei Wang 5/29/03 - 5/16/24 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jacquelyn Wang, who left us far too soon at the age of 20. Jacquelyn was a remarkable young woman whose radiant smile and inner beauty lit up every room she entered. Her life, though tragically short, was filled with immense achievements and unwavering dedication to excellence. Jacquelyn excelled academically, reaching the top of her class at Grosse Pointe South High School, where she served as class president and delivered an inspiring graduation speech in 2021. She was a National Merit Semifinalist and a candidate for the US Presidential Scholars Program. Jacquelyn's commitment to her education continued at the prestigious Cornell University, where she pursued her studies in labor relations with the same passion and dedication that defined her life. An accomplished athlete, Jacquelyn was an integral member of the Mutants Swim Team, the Grosse Pointe Gators Swim Team, and captain of the Grosse Pointe South High School Swim Team. She also showcased her talents in the Grosse Pointe South Show Choir, where her love for music and performance shone brightly. Jacquelyn was more than just an academic and athletic powerhouse; she was a tireless activist, always standing up for the rights of others with integrity and unwavering resolve. Her activism was a testament to her compassionate heart and her desire to advance equity and justice. In addition to her many accomplishments, Jacquelyn was an avid reader, a fashion enthusiast, and a talented writer who received numerous accolades for her brilliant writing including the National Scholastic Writing Award presented at Carnegie Hall, NYC. She had a deep love for music, was a passionate Swiftie, she especially enjoyed listening to vinyl records, and she adored her dog, Indi. Jacquelyn's adventurous spirit took her on many wonderful travels with her family to China, Europe, and most recently to Hong Kong. She cherished these experiences, along with the visits to her relatives in Toronto, Canada. With her studies in Mandarin, Jacquelyn embraced her heritage and shared her linguistic talents with pride. She is survived by her beloved mother, Elizabeth Wang, and was preceded in death by her father, Herman Wang. Jacquelyn was the cherished granddaughter of Eastman and Chi Wang and John Sossi (Joan Sossi), a beloved niece to John (Donna) Sossi, Michael Sossi, James Sossi, Thomas Clark, Robert (Lela) Sossi and Howard (Sook Tien) Wang and Helena (Alfonso) Wang-Flores, and beloved cousin to Michael and Pamela Sossi, and Justin, Alyssa and Patrick Wang. Jacquelyn's legacy is one of unparalleled excellence, dignity, and respect. She inspired everyone who knew her with her unwavering commitment to every project she undertook. As she once said in her graduation speech, “You are an artist. You are a visionary. You are essential. You can be that comet in the sky, trailblazing a path of extraordinary light and color and potential.” Jacquelyn was indeed a comet, leaving a trail of love and light behind that will be remembered forever. Visitation will take place Friday, May 24, 2024 at St. Blase Catholic Church (12151 15 Mile Rd. Sterling Heights, MI 48312) from 9:00am until the 10:30am Mass celebrating Jacquelyn’s life.
