Gerald Malcolm Pack

Gerald Malcom Pack April 17th 1934 - May 20th 2023 He was born in Wheeling WA to Loye and Zeta (Hurley) Pack. Gerald became Gerald when his father, the famous country singer Cowboy Loye, held a baby naming contest on a Wheeling radio station. Following the untimely death of his father, Gerry and his siblings Don, Paul and JoAnn moved with their mother back to the family farm in Nebraska. After Gerry graduated from Ponca High School, he joined the Army. He was very proud that his courage to serve carried on in his family. His daughter Deborah (now deceased) was an Iraq War Veteran, and his Grandson Paul is a United States Marine. He met the love of his life, Adine Gilchrist, while attending the teachers college in Wayne Nebraska. They married in 1959. The newlyweds were brought to Michigan when Madison High School went in search of educators from every state to help enrich the lives of local students. Gerry was a beloved teacher for 39 years. A trip to Meijers or Home Depot rarely happened without a former student yelling down the aisle “Mr. Pack?!” Sadly, his wife Deanie passed away in 1994. He never remarried. Gerry’s continued devotion to his one and only love would define this extraordinary gentleman’s character for the rest of his life. As a parent his support was unconditional and unwavering. Gerry’s dedication to his children was tireless. Family stories about this kind and generous father will continue to light up kitchen tables for generations to come. He is survived by his brother Don, his son Jeff and wife Mia Pack, grandsons Paul Pack, Aaron Pack with Laurie Pack and great grandchildren Luke and Isla, his daughter in-law Cindy Johndrow (Deborah Pack’s Widow) with grandchildren Colten and Delana, dear friends Tom and Stella Blair and Isabel Zammaron-Pack, and his daughter Heidi and her husband Kevin Pack. Finally, this tribute would not be complete without a Cornhusker “GO BIG RED!” Visitation Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 3-8pm with funeral service 5:00pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile).
