Genevieve B. Praski

PRASKI, Genevieve B. October 3, 2022. Age 98. Beloved wife of the late Joseph T. Praski. Loving mother of Marlene (Glen) Stoddard, Deborah (the late Jimmy) Casey, and Joseph J. (Marilyn) Praski. Proud and adored grandmother of Daniel, Matthew (Allison), Jonathan (Tricia), Christopher, Joseph A., and Jesse (Andrea). Genevieve was blessed with a very long and fruitful life; her family and Our Lord were always the priority. Born in Hamtramck in 1924, raised in Detroit, she created a home and family in Harper Woods, and enjoyed her sunset years at home in Rochester Hills. Genevieve was a perseverant and gentle soul. Upon graduation from high school, she joined the war effort to manufacture airplane parts during WWll. Genevieve had retained dreams of becoming a big band singer and was following the path. At work she met her soul mate, a handsome timekeeper named Joseph Praski. She married Joseph in 1945 at St. Florian Catholic Church and surrendered her singing dream. Initially residing in Hamtramck and as the original modern woman, Genevieve was business oriented and gained much insight while working at Liberty State Bank for 10 years. In the early 1950’s, Joseph and Genevieve built a home in Harper Woods and then a loving family of three children. As Genevieve raised her children at home, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing. She sewed family outfits that regularly won awards at the annual Eastland Easter Parade. As faith filled Catholics, the family was members of St. Jude Parish and Genevieve was an active member of the Altar Society. As the children grew, Genevieve returned to the workplace at the Equitable Life Insurance Company in downtown Detroit. It provided her with the opportunity to purchase their first restaurant and lounge, Jo-G’s Place on East McNichols. Seven years later, they became the owners of Joey’s Family Restaurant in Keego Harbor where they remained for 25 years. As semi-retirement called, Genevieve traveled to Poland to visit her homeland and on her second trip, she ventured into the towns and hillsides to discover her living relatives. Caring for her beloved Joseph was always her focus. In 2007, after 62 loving years of marriage, Joseph was called home to the Lord. Genevieve was now content surrounded by her children and six grandsons in their warmth and love. The Lord continued to bless Genevieve with 15 more years of good health in her earthly home. And then on a Monday, as the sun was rising to a brilliant and beautiful autumn morning, the Lord peacefully guided Genevieve back to His kingdom. She had fulfilled His plan of a life filled with compassion, duty, generosity and love. Visitation Thursday 4-8pm and Friday 1-8pm with an evening Rosary at Wujek - Calcaterra & Sons Inc., (Shelby Twp.) 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. Funeral Saturday Instate from 10am until time of 11am Mass at St. Mary of the Hills, 2675 John R. Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307. Interment Guardian Angel Cemetery.
