SERRA, GASPARE Age 84 With gratitude, honor, and love everlasting, we commemorate the life of Gaspare Giuseppe Serra and his return to our Lord on Monday, May 22, 2023. He went to heaven surrounded by love in the presence of his beloved family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanne (Cipriano) Serra and his daughters, Grace (Regan) Serra-Boldman, Madeleine (Norman) Serra-Killop and Stephanie (William) Serra-Bartolotta and his beloved grandchildren Norman Joseph, Stephen, Anthony, Madeline, Luke, Gia and Catie. He also leaves behind his sister, Nucia Caruso-Corrado. He is preceded in eternal life by his mother, Grazia (Palazzolo) Serra and his father, Stefano Serra. Gaspare was born on August 5th, 1938, in Terrasini, Sicilia with a good nature that proved to be his life-long blessing. His boyhood was spent tending to his family’s livestock and crops including lemons, peaches, grapes and tomatoes. He also contributed to making the family wine, an art he continued up until just last year. At 18, he served in the Italian air force protecting the city of Rome during the 1960 Olympics. This taste of adventure led him eventually to America in 1964. Not by coincidence, it’s the same year he married his love, Joanne. Gaspare and Joanne went on to have 3 daughters and worked together to build a beautiful life. Gaspare worked as a cement mason and bricklayer. His family and their needs ALWAYS came first. His daughters and later his seven amazing grandchildren would remember him saying over and over again, “I will take care you.” Most importantly, he always did, and he always will! Visitation Thursday 3-8pm with 7:00pm Scripture Service at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile (SHELBY TOWNSHIP). Funeral Friday Instate 10:30am at SS John and Paul Catholic Church 7777 28 Mile Rd. (West of Campground) until time of Mass at 11:00am. Donations are welcome to Lewy Body Dementia Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Entombment Guardian Angel Cemetery.
