Frank David Shortino

Frank D. Shortino of Sterling Heights, Michigan passed away on May 1, 2023 at the age of 97. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri and grew up on a small farm in Grandview, Missouri. After completing high school he joined the Navy V-12 program at Park College in Missouri and NROTC at the University of Michigan. Upon completion of service he graduated from the University of Kansas School of Business. He had a brief stint at Armour and Company before beginning his long career with General Motors. He worked as an accountant until his retirement from GM Corporate Financial in 1982. Frank was an avid golfer who played well into his nineties, and he was known to likely be found on the golf course if he was not at home. This sport kept him youthful and he was mistaken for being 20-30 years younger than his true age. Frank loved to watch golf, make clubs, travel far and wide, and do crossword puzzles. He was an expert wordsmith with a large vocabulary and sharp mind until the very end. Frank was a generous man who championed the achievements of his children and grandchildren and he filled his home with their photos and awards. To visit his living room was to see a man proud of his family. Frank was a curious and intellectual person who loved to immerse himself in deep topics such as astronomy, healing, history, and life on earth. He had a particular affinity for PBS documentaries, educational shows, and westerns. Frank liked to be as self-sufficient as possible and provided an example of stoic perseverance even when faced with multiple health challenges. He was living independently at the time of his passing and he called his home his bachelor pad. Frank was preceded in death by his wife Joann Shortino, and sister Dorothy Schroeder of Lenexa, Kansas. Surviving are his daughters Susan of Chico, CA, Nancy (Scott) of Oak Forest, IL, Linda (Steve) of Sterling Heights, MI, and son David of Jacksonville, FL. Frank had six grandchildren; Jeremy, Brandon, Logan, Michael, Marissa, and Julia, and one great-grandchild, Jace. It was amazing to see a 97 year old man with such a strong will and spirit. He will be missed. We love you Dad and Papa. Private services will be held with burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
