POZIOS, EVANS. A beloved husband, father, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 4th, 2026, at the age of 65, in Macomb Township, Michigan. Born on Saturday, July 1st, 1961 in Grosse Pointe, Evans was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. He had a witty and sarcastic sense of humor that will be missed by all who knew him. Evans was a lifelong resident of Michigan, deeply rooted in the communities he cherished. In his childhood years, the family lived on the east side of Detroit, then moved to Grosse Pointe Woods in 1974. After his dad and uncle bought Coney Island Lunch in Downtown Port Huron, the family relocated to Marysville. Evans graduated from Marysville High School in 1979. He began working at his family’s restaurant during high school. He and his brother, Bill, still operate two locations in the Port Huron area, which were later renamed Mama Vicki’s Coney Island in honor of their mother. Despite his dedication to the restaurant, Evans vowed to never miss out on his kids’ sporting events, showing up in his work clothes to the high school gymnasium for Zoe’s basketball games or the ice rink for Christopher’s hockey games. He was proud of his softball assistant coach title for Evie, even when she would try to force a walk by purposely getting hit by the ball. Even during his long and frequent hospital stays, he would always have the livestream of his son’s hockey practice and games playing, coaching him from his hospital bed. Evans loved playing golf, rec league, and church league basketball every week with his friends in Marysville. He looked forward to vacationing at the cherished family condo at Hammock Pine in Clearwater, Florida. He was proud of his Greek heritage as the son of Greek immigrant parents. Known for his love of all Detroit sports teams, Evans was a sports stat and player savant. He remembered every player and game, who did what, and when. When his daughters would play trivia with their friends, he was a frequent “phone-a-friend” for niche sports-related questions. When Evans was a young boy he would lay in his bed and listen to Ernie Harwell call the Tigers games on his transistor radio. Perhaps his love for Detroit hockey stemmed from a chance encounter at a Red Wings game in October 1997 at Joe Louis Arena, where he laid eyes on the love of his life, Dory. They later married on November 19, 2000. Evans worked up until the day before his diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia on July 25, 2024. He courageously battled this disease even after several setbacks. He was surrounded by family and love at home up until the time of his peaceful passing. Evans is survived by his devoted wife, Dory Pozios, and their three cherished children: daughters Zoe and Evie, and son Christopher, all of whom he adored and guided with unwavering love and wisdom. He leaves behind his brother Bill (Jeannie) Pozios and sister Patty Pozios, as well as his mother-in-law, Deborah (Kenneth) Smith, and brother-in-law Stanley (Erika) DeMan. Proud godfather of Lukas Darling and Thomas Manos. Evans is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends who will deeply miss him and his generous spirit. He will be dearly missed by his dog Josie, his faithful companion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Vicki Pozios, whom he loved dearly and is now reunited with in eternal peace. Visitation on Wednesday, October 7th, 2026 at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 54880 Van Dyke at 25 Mile Rd. (Shelby Township) from 3-8pm with a 7:00pm Trisagion service. Funeral Thursday Instate 9:30am at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church 21800 Marter Rd. (North of Vernier (8 Mile) St. Clair Shores, MI until time of Liturgy at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly welcomed to support future educational expenses for his children. Evans Pozios will be remembered for his kind heart, his loyalty to his friends and family, and his unyielding devotion to the passions that defined his life.
