SCHOFIELD, Ellen Marie. Age 93. July 25, 2024. Beloved mother of Nancy Jay, Donna Schofield and Michael (AnnMarie) Schofield. Cherished grandmother of Rachel (Matthew) Johnson, Jeffrey Jay, Ava Schofield and Nicholas Schofield. Adored great-grandmother of Elle Johnson. Loving daughter of the late Domenico and the late Antoinette Cornacchia and sister of the late Bill Cornacchia. Ellen grew up in Detroit on St. Louis Street, where her dad built their house with one of the first attached garages. Ellen, the apple of her parents' eyes, had the master bedroom with the balcony overlooking the street. Having an exceptionally close extended Italian family, many family members lived on St. Louis. This tradition continued through multiple moves as various cousins and relatives moved together, through her last move to George Drive where she and her late husband (Jerry) raised their family. Ellen worked at Fidelity Bank, finally retiring "early" at the age of 79 1/2. She was just short of her goal of 80, but needed time off to go Up North for the 4th of July. Ellen and her family loved going to their cottage in Irons, MI. They would spend the days on Harper Lake, evenings on the deck, and nights in the cottage joking and laughing. Harper Lake was Ellen's favorite place, her peaceful get-away. She spent her final days here surrounded by family. Ellen was charismatic and witty her entire life, made easier by always being up to date on politics, current events and pop culture. Her charm was undeniable, to know her was to love her. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel important and loved. Since her passing, many have said she was "non-generational" because she could relate to anyone. Her youthfulness, in appearance and spirit, were a constant topic of conversation, much to her annoyance as she never wanted to be the center of attention. But inevitably, she usually was. While Ellen will be sorely missed, the family draws solace in the fact that she is at peace and home with the Lord, her parents and brother.
