Douglas Lee Rouls

Douglas L. Rouls, age 75, of Macomb, passed away on November 29, 2024. Born and raised in Detroit, Doug attended Carleton Elementary School before graduating from Denby High School and Wayne State University. Doug was the beloved husband of Donna (nee Mayer) for 52 adventurous years. A devoted father, he leaves behind Adam (Nadine), Julia MacDonald, and Emily (Nicholas) Cheolas. Doug was the proud grandfather of Addison, Sophia, Charlotte, Mathew, Steven, and Theo, who all brought immense joy to his life. Dear brother of Charles (Sharon) Rouls and Mike (Mary) Rouls, predeceased by his sister Laurie (the late Robert Brock) Rouls. As a good steward of the Christian faith, Bethany Christian Church held great significance and influence in Doug's life. Singing was his passion, starting as a choir boy at age 13, he dedicated himself to the church community and held various positions, including President of the Congregation, Elder, and Finance Chair. His commitment to his faith and the church made a lasting impact on those who knew him. Doug’s career began in 1975, Where he spent 37 years as a newspaper circulation veteran at the Detroit Free Press. Doug's work ethic and leadership left a mark on the industry and the people he worked with. In retirement, Doug worked for The Palace, Pine Knob, Comerica Park, and Little Caesars Arena. Family and friends loved visiting him during games and concerts, where he enjoyed connecting with the community and sharing his enthusiasm for live events. Doug followed the Rouls/Bare family tradition of exploring. He took this love of adventure to the extreme, often planning frequent family day trips to various locations throughout Michigan. He also visited his daughters often in Hawaii and Washington D.C., and cherished taking family trips to Disney World, Europe, and Africa, where he marveled at his favorite animal, the Mountain Gorilla. An avid University of Michigan sports fan, Doug was a dedicated season ticket holder for UofM football for 50 years. One of his most treasured memories was a trip to the Rose Bowl with his son and best friend, Jim, to see Michigan defeat Washington State and secure the 1997 National Championship. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday, December 4th, from 3:00 to 9:00 PM at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile Rd). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 5th, at 10:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
