Donald Patrick Tevlin
March 15, 1929 - April 23, 2022
Donald Patrick Tevlin was born on March 15,1929 in Marysville, MI and passed away on April 23, 2022. As a young man, Don was an athlete, happiest when he was on the field or the court. At 17, he went off to Western Michigan University, where he played on the baseball team and majored in Physical Education. After four years of distinguished service in the Air Force in the early 1950s, Don began his career as a Phys Ed teacher and basketball coach at Hamtramck High School. Several years later, Don took a job at Tower High School in Warren, where he switched fields and became a history teacher, eventually winning Michigan History teacher of the year. His passion for history stayed with him long into retirement and he remained an avid reader---especially of military history---his whole life. Don is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Janet (LeComte). In recent years, Don especially enjoyed long drives with Janet as they discovered scenic routes, small towns, and unexpected vistas together. In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his two daughters, Kelly Taylor and Stacey Tevlin (David Palmer) and grandchildren Madeline, Silas, Emma, and Abraham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Irene Tevlin, and by his brothers, Raymond and William. Visitation will be Friday 3-9 pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons in Shelby Township. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on April 30 at Saints John and Paul Catholic Church in Washington, MI. Friends are welcome at 9:30am. Donations to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
