In Loving Memory of Donald James Brock Donald James Brock, a brilliant mind, devoted father, and joyful spirit, passed away surrounded by love and family. His life was one of curiosity, achievement, and wonder - a testament to the power of imagination, learning, and adventure. A Detroit native, Don graduated from Cass Technical High School at just 16 years old. His love of learning led him to Wayne State University, where he earned a Master’s degree, cementing his lifelong role as a champion of education. He was not only a scholar himself, but a cheerleader for every learner he met. Don’s career reflected his deep intellect and pioneering spirit. He was part of the team that developed the world’s first portable EEG machine, transforming the field of medical diagnostics. At Boeing, his brilliance soared as he helped design the cockpits of the KC-135, 727, and 737 aircraft. Later, he proudly finished his professional journey at Ford Motor Company, contributing his knowledge and precision to one of America’s most iconic brands. Outside of work, Don was a man of many passions. He was a lifelong bowler with a legendary spin, a road trip enthusiast who crisscrossed the country with his children, and an explorer who completed not one but two driving adventures all the way to Alaska. In recent years, he especially cherished his trips to Hawaii. But perhaps nothing brought Don more pure joy than the world of Disney. He was a true devotee - drawn to its magic, wonder, and whimsy. Mickey Mouse was a favorite, but it was Donald Duck who captured Don’s heart. He perfected an uncanny Donald Duck impression that could make anyone laugh, and delighted in performing it for friends and family. Whether visiting the parks, collecting memorabilia, or simply embracing the spirit of childlike wonder, Don lived with a sense of joy that echoed Walt Disney’s own vision of dreaming big. Don also had a sharp mind for numbers, especially at the blackjack table - so sharp, in fact, that Las Vegas casinos occasionally asked him to take a break for his expert-level card counting. It was all in good fun, and Don approached it with the same cleverness and enthusiasm he brought to everything he did. Through it all, Don remained a constant advocate for education and a believer in lifelong learning. His legacy lives on not only in the machines he helped build or the roads he traveled, but in the minds he encouraged and the hearts he touched. Donald James Brock will be dearly missed and forever remembered - for his brilliance, humor, warmth, and the magic he brought into the lives of others. Beloved partner in life to Nancy. Dearest father to Elaine (Gregg) Thomas, Dawn (John) Everix, and Randy (Christine) Brock. Cherished grandfather to Alexa, Ryan (Kaitlyn), Daniel, Jeffrey, John, Michael (Anna), Reagan, Chase, and Reese. Donald is preceded in death by his parents David and Florence Brock, and his siblings Dorothy, Gloria, Arlene, Lillian, Dave, Bill and George. Committal service on Wednesday August 6, 2025 at 11 am at White Chapel Cemetery, 621 W Long Lake Rd, Troy, MI 48098.
