Domenico Alvaro

January 16, 1928 - January 28, 2022

ALVARO, Domenico. January 28, 2022. Age 94. Beloved husband of the late Giuseppa (2017). Loving father of Carmelo, Gregorio (Cheryl), Antonio, Francesca Alvaro, Rita (Dwight) Pugsley and Maria (Michael) Kramer. Proud and adored grandfather of Ashley (Timothy) Nenciarini, Kadra (Jon) Kelly, Tanya Alvaro, Domenic Alvaro, Eric Pugsley, Victoria Pugsley and Zachary Kramer. Domenico was fondly called "Dom" by all his friends and Pops, Poocci, Poppucci, Nonno and Pappa, by his loving family. Domenico up-lifted his life and moved from Reggio Calabria, Italy to Detroit, Michigan at the young age of 27. He worked day and night so that he could bring his wife and son to America. He embraced America and made it his own by becoming a U.S. Citizen in 1963. His most important passion was his family and his hard work ethic which he instilled in his children. He worked for Ford Motor Company over 30 years and proudly spoke of his time at Ford with true happiness. Domenico’s talents were many. His ability to grow vegetables gardens, fruit trees and flower gardens or just about anything that grew in soil was beyond amazing. He was a true and gifted Master Gardner. He self-taught himself with all his gifts. Anyone who beheld his gardens were inspired with such beauty. He loved music. He sang and played the guitar up till the day he died. He would play for all those around him and gave them joy and many lasting memories. Domenico had the uncanny talent of creating gadgets from just about anything that others felt served no purpose, but he found a purpose in everything. Nothing was thrown away. He enjoyed cooking for his wife, family and friends. He made the most delicious sandwiches. And lastly, he was an accomplished wine maker. Domenico will be greatly missed by his loving family and anyone with the opportunity to be touched by his life. The family has decided to have a private family only service on Saturday, February 5th at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons. Entombment at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East.
