David Leo Bruce, of Rochester, MI, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2021 at the age of 56, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dena; his beloved children, Grace, Leo, and James; and his dear siblings, Mary (William) Stoiber, Greg Bruce, Paul (Laura) Bruce, Doug (Dana) Bruce, and Stuart Bruce. He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Bruce; his father, Leo Wallace “Wally” Bruce; his brothers-in-law, Anthony and Joseph Ciolino; and his in-laws, Grace and Anthony Ciolino. David is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. Born in Marquette, MI in 1965, David was a Yooper at heart. He spent his childhood causing trouble with friends Marc Grove, Charlie Kronschabel, Phil Ollila, Mike Parejko, Tom Skoog, Joel Klahn, Brian DeBroux, David Bartlett, Steve Horwood, Rick Bissonnette, and Jeff Surrell. David graduated from Northern Michigan University in 1988 with a degree in Business, and went on to earn his masters degree in Industrial Relations from Wayne State University in 1992. He enjoyed a long and prosperous career with Volkswagen Group of America, where he was beloved by many coworkers and friends. David valued service to others, and dedicated countless hours to serving Action Against Hunger, the Loudoun Literacy Council, and ProLiteracy Worldwide. Even throughout his twelve year battle with cancer, David worked tirelessly to support his family, his company, and his community. Dave will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, uncle, and friend. We will never forget his affinity for online Scrabble, his sweet tooth, and his love for our dog Hazel. Dave certainly left this world a better place than he found it, and his children hope to carry on his legacy of courage, selflessness, and love. Visitation will be held on January 4th from 3:00 - 9:00 PM at Wujek Calcaterra, followed by a funeral mass at St. Andrew Catholic Church on January 5th at 11:00 AM.
