Carl Lundgren Jr.

February 25, 1922 - May 29, 2022

Carl Lundgren Jr, a proud Marine Corps Veteran of WW II, and recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, from an injury received at the Battle of Peleliu, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Harsens Island, Michigan, Sunday, May 29th. Mr. Lundgren was born in Westville, Pennsylvania on February 25, 1922 to Gunar Carl and Alice (Ward) Lundgren. Carl was extremely proud of his Swedish heritage, and the fact that he was a Marine Drill Instructor before shipping out for duty in the South Pacific during WWII. He loved boating, golfing, spending his winters in Sebring, Florida, and summers on Harsens Island, Michigan. In fact, Carl told his son while still in Florida, shortly after his 100th birthday party this past February, "I want to take my last breath on Harsens Island." He returned to the Island from Florida just two weeks before his passing! This love of the island all went back to his childhood years when his family would take him for summer excursions on the Steamer Tashmoo from Detroit to the picnic area on Harsens Island. Carl had boated in the Harsens Island area for many years at the South Channel Yacht Club, and as of late, the Sun Down Marina. Carl had one daughter, Karen Trombley of Trenton, Michigan; a son, Carl Gunnar Lundgren of Maumee, Ohio; 5 grandsons, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great-- great grandchildren. Along with his parents and 3 sisters, Carl was predeceased by his wife Alice (LaHood) Lundgren and great grandson, Zander Carl Lundgren. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. on Friday, June 3 at Wujek--Calcaterra, 36900 Schoenherr Rd, Sterling Heights, MI 54880. The US Marine Corps will conduct a Military Service at Roseland Park Cemetery, 29001 Woodward Ave, Berkley, MI on Friday, at 11 a.m. A Masonic Service will also be given at that time. Luncheon to follow.
