Bonnie Sue Hoag
November 3, 1942 - January 16, 2022
Bonnie Sue Hoag (Casey), age 79 of Macomb, Michigan died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 16, 2022. Bonnie was born on November 3, 1942 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Harry and Nadean Casey. She graduated in 1960 from Rogers High School, in Wyoming, MI. Shortly thereafter, she and her highschool sweetheart, Tom, were married on July 13, 1962. Together they raised their family in metro Detroit. Prior to having children, Bonnie worked as a dental assistant, a stay-at-home mom, and as a parapro teacher with the MISD. After they put their kids through school, Bonnie went to school herself and earned her nursing degree and cared for others as a nurse for 17 years. Bonnie’s favorite job was being a grandmother. When grandchildren came along, Bonnie started “Nana Day” -- every Monday all of the grandkids were dropped off at her house. They played, crafted, cooked, ate, napped and brought every toy out. They were long and exhausting days, but Nana loved them and would not have had it any other way. Bonnie cherished her dogs, Christmastime and going to worship at The Mission Church, in Shelby Township. She belonged to a women's bible study group with very close friends called “The Swift Ladies” Bonnie loved the sunshine and warm weather. There were many fun camping trips with family and friends to Walt Disney World and Sarasota, Florida. Tom and Bonnie vacationed in Puerto Vallarta, Hawaii, Fort Lauderdale, Scottsdale, Washington DC and Caribbean cruises. Bonnie and Tom enjoyed a winter home in Port Charlotte, Fl. In Florida they enjoyed sight-seeing, visiting friends, long walks, golf cart rides, and watching beach sunsets. More memories were made with close friends in Traverse City, on Mackinac Island, Avery Lake and Lake St. Helen. Bonnie had many hobbies: cross-stich, scrap booking, home decorating, sewing baby bath towels, knitting kitchen washcloths, fun fur scarves, and afghan blankets. She played the piano, liked jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She loved to bake treats as was family-famous for her banana bread, raisin bran muffins, and rice krispie treats. Bonnie will be missed and is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Tom, her children Tom Hoag Jr. (Barbie), Trisha Cabana (David) and Tracey Hoag, her eight grandchildren - Brenden Cabana (26), Cameron Cabana (24), Mitchel Gassel (23), Matthew Gassel (22), Sam Hoag (22), Annie Hoag (20), Jacob Cabana (19) and Joe Hoag (18) - and brother Michael Casey (Carolyn).
