Bernard Peter Kolodziejski

Bernard Kolodziejski was given the gift of life, and now he has to give it back. It is with great sadness that the family of Bernard Peter Kolodziejski announces his peaceful transition to eternal life on October 22, 2022, surrounded by family. He was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Bernard was born in Detroit on August 5, 1939, to the late Helen and Alexander Kolodziejski and was cared for by the late Theresa and Anthony Swiercz, with love in a family-filled upbringing. In 1962, at a family wedding he met the love of his life, his earthly angel, Jeanette Pietras, and were wed on July 9, 1966, and welcomed their daughter Renee to complete their family. Bernard graduated from Pershing High School and joined the US Navy, where he learned their stern call: faith, courage, service true, with honor, over honor, over all, on the Floyd B. Parks Destroyer. In 1961, he joined General Electric for his entire career, where he became an essential and reliable fixture in the community; loved by many throughout the years. Bernard was a giving, caring, and selfless soul and was loved by many families, friends, and acquaintances. He was renowned for his kindness and willingness to help those in need. Everyone who knew him felt his big heart and giving nature. He was a stranger to no one and found great purpose in sharing his knowledge, successes, joys, and handiness with those around him. Bernard was authentically and wholeheartedly there for anyone who needed a helping hand, showing up when it mattered. Bernard put family first, always, and was a dedicated father. He was fiercely passionate about raising a brilliant daughter, Dr. Renee (Scott) Courtney, providing her with a strong foundation of love, kindness, and gentleness. His grandchildren, Brady and Riley, were his heart and joy. He will always be remembered with much love by his heartbroken wife, Jeanette; daughter Renee (Scott) Courtney and their children Brady and Riley; niece Debbie (John) LaVara, great nephew Steven; great niece Shelley (Dominic) Basile, and great great niece Aubrey; brother in law Thomas (Linda) Pietras and nieces Kristen (Steve) Myers, Shannon (Jaime) Lopiccolo, nephew Ryan (AnnMarie) Pietras and niece Geri (Calvin) Powell and their families. He will forever be in their hearts and missed very much every day. Loved ones that cleared the path for Bernard are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mitzie and Carl Trouteaud, Esther and Ronald Dickerson, and nephew Jim Trouteaud. Visitation Wednesday October 26th from 3-9pm with a 7pm Rosary service @ Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 36900 Schoenherr at Metro parkway (16 Mile Rd). Funeral Thursday October 27th, instate 10:30am at St. Malachy Catholic Church 14115 14 Mile Rd (East of Schoenherr) until time of Mass 11am.
